Customer Questions & Answers

My openings are 3' and smaller. Will this gate work for a small opening?

Asked by: Jennifer
Yes. Cut a fence panel to the width you want. Then use the kit to convert the panel to a gate.

Do you need to purchase a panel and make this gate or is the gate ready to go and you just need to attach hinges?

Asked by: marie
Look at the photo. That's all that's included in the gate kit. You have to purchase a fence panel. You can get multiple gates out of one panel.

Can I buy 2 gate kits and make 2 gates from ONE fence panel?

I am needing two, 3.5 ft. gates. It would seem like I could make two gates out of one 6 x 8 ft. fence panel. I don't want to buy two fence panels if I can get it done with one panel.
Asked by: Nasag
Yes, the fence is 8 ' I suggest not to go any wider than 3'5 ". If you find it dragging I suggest putting a wheel at the bottom of the gate.

Need wider gate opening

Is there a different kit available that allows for a 60" opening?
Asked by: JSam
The manufacturer recommends 42" maximum width, but if you buy an 8' panel, you can make an 8' wide gate. Cut the fence panel with rails to the width you want. Add the pieces in the gate kit to the left and right sides of the fence panel with rails to make your gate. For a 60" gate, buy a 6' panel kit.

We are not pleased with this product as it took several purchases to get the correct gate kit to match the panels. Nothing that the store had on hand matched to any if the products, basically we couldn't put together one gate as all the parts did not match. Luckily, the contractor Mr. Victor, was able to go to several stores to obtain all the right parts to assemble the fence.

The only problem I had that I tried to rely on recommendation and used 5 overland panels to get 40 inch wide gate. The result unfortunately was 41 and 1/2 inch. Since my post were already in place, had to decrease width by 1 and 1/2 inch. Not big deal but if I relied on measurements alone would have been easier. .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One kit makes a gate up to 8' long The online description for this product isn't very clear, so I'll spell it out here. One gate kit can make a gate 8' long, but the manufacturer recommends that the gate not be more than 3.5' long. In the photo on the website, the two long white post-looking things are the right and left sides of the gate. You have to buy a fence panel to put between those two sides. The top and bottom rail that come with the fence panel pieces go on the top and bottom of the gate, and the panel pieces go between them, just like they do in the fence. If you need multiple gates, you can split a panel kit between the gates if you want to. Or you might be able to buy a 6' panel instead of an 8', and save a little money. Be sure to buy something solid to go in the post that the gate hangs on. I used 4x4' cedar posts, costing about $20 each. That's much cheaper than the metal inserts. Also, the gated hinges bolt onto the post, if the gate post is up against a wall, like mine is, you won't need any pre-routed holes in that post. Buy a post without holes in it, in that case.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Looks nice but not finished Fence goes together nicely, The only problem I can see is that in there gate kit there also needs to be a gate tensioner. There is little chance that the brakets provided in the kit will keep your gate square and true without a gate tersioner or a crossbuck. I had to improvise. Verandas tech's should have caught this problem I feel.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Do your own math Way overpriced for what it is. I used Veranda Dover fencing, so I was kind of at their mercy as far as a gate kit. The measurements given in the instructions will make the gate too wide to fit in the opening. I took off an inch extra, but forgot about the latch kit which also needs some room. The kit is basically 2 vinyl rails, some hardware, and a piece of paper with incorrect instructions. I'm not sure why this cost almost $100.I will say the finished product does look nice after correcting the problems.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from poor design Made several 3 ft. gates with dover gate kit. Once assembled , the gates would drag because they have no ability to stay square. Read other review about adding a wheel to bottom of gate. Customer should not have to modify gate because of the cheap design of the gate. Gate should be solid and stay square - not out of shape and not level.
