Typically we recommend replacing the carbon filter after 18 months or if you notice odors or smells being un treated. However, the most accurate way to determine if the carbon filter needs to be replaced is when the carbon filter increases its weight by 20%. This would require that you weigh the carbon filter prior to using, when it increases its weight by 20 % you then know that the carbon in the filter has reached its capacity to effectively clean the air. There is no replacement kit for the unit. The carbon is agitated and compressed during the manufacturing process, this process is what makes the carbon filter treat all the incoming air. Typically it is very hard to simulate the compaction and agitation process inside the filter and this process is very messy and not recommended as fine carbon particulates will enter the air.
I hope this information helps.
Thank you,
