Customer Questions & Answers

Is this pump safe for fish and does the motor contain oil that could leak into the pond if a seal failed?

Asked by: BigT
I use this pump as part of a recycling hydroponic system. There have not been any issues causing harm to my plants and the pump has been in operation for quite some time. I believe that the pump uses water for lubrication, but could be wrong. I do know that the pump is safe for use with living things including fish.

Can this pump be hooked up to a standard garden hose?

Asked by: Mizpackfan
That's an awesome pump, isn't it? You cannot just connect the fittings on a standard garden hose to this pump with the fittings that are included with this pump. You could purchase some additional fittings at your local Home Depot and make an adapter that would enable you to attach a standard water hose to this pump. Depending on your purpose, though, it may just be easier and more efficient to purchase a different style pump.

What are the dimensions of this pump?

Asked by: Bruce
It is approximately 6" X 3 1/2" X 2 1/2" . There are also removable feet (suction cups) that account for about 1/8". This is a nice running medium sized pump.

Customer Reviews

660 GHP Hydroponic, Fountain and Pond Submersible Pump is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good pressure for waterfall feature We are using the 660 GPH Submersible Pump for our waterfall feature. Currently it is taking water to a height of about 6 feet and the water is moving with good pressure. It was super easy to install right out of the box. I wish the cord was little longer as it gives you little more flexibility of installation which is currently about 6 feet. Included 3 adapters of output size: 0.5 in., 0.675 in. and 0.75 in. makes it convenient to connect. It has a pre-filter that prevents clogs due to leaves and debris. Nice design but bigger size than other pumps with similar capacity, not a problem for most part as the pump is submerged. Overall a good buy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice pump for a small waterfall feature... This 660 GPH Viagrow Submersible Water Pump is well-constructed and feels solid. It comes with a 1 year satisfaction guarantee. It has a reusable screened pre-filter for stopping debris that could clog the pump. Included are 3 output adapters: 0.5”, 0.675”, and 0.75”. The maximum lift height is rated at 8.86 Ft and it provides ample water flow for my 6’ tall decorative stone waterfall. The filter and the motor housing are simple to dismantle and clean, but the overall size of the pump is a tad larger than I expected. It was super easy to install right out of the box. The cord could be a little longer, but at 6 feet I’ve made it work. Overall this is a good buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice pump, seems big This is a nice pump with an outflow of 660 GPH. Its specifications state that it can pump up to a max height of 8.86 ft, which should be nice for most home applications such as waterfalls and other water features. It comes with three adaptors to vary the output size: 0.5 in., 0.675 in. and 0.75 in. fittings. The power cord is about 6 feet long. The pump is easy to dismantle to clean the filter and the motor housing. The overall size of the pump seems a little big, but it works for my applications. I've been using it to drain a small blow-up swimming pool in the back yard this summer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Hydroponic Systems I installed this Viagrow 660 GPH Submersible Pump on a hydroponic strawberry stack. In my usage the pump pushes a nutrient solution to a little over 6’ through a ½” flexible pipe and then through open flow emitters before the solution trickles back down to the reservoir. I’m getting an impressive amount of flow at 6’. The pump lacks an inline option and the ability to adjust flow, neither of which affects my usage. The pump is very well constructed and has a 6' electrical cord. The pump runs quietly and works really well. Home Depot offers a variety of Viagrow Submersible Pumps with flow rates ranging from 159 GPH to 924.7 GPH. This pump with an intermediate flow rate of 660 GPH is perfect for my use. I am happy with the 660 GPH Submersible Pump and expect a lot of service from it. I definitely would recommend this pump to a friend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Large Fountain or Small Pond Pump Ideal for a large fountain, small pond or split the flow for multiple small installations. Durability & construction feel solid and the water flow is ample. Priced right for the home user who is looking for a pump capable of moving water in DIY built applications. Reasonably quiet. Ample pressure and flow for waterfalls. The screened pre-filter is capable of weeding out debris that would otherwise clog the pump.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great flow for a small pump I needed to replace the pump in my rock feature after 8 years of use ... the pump arrived in time before I bought a new one... The 660 GPH Submersible Pump does give a good flow from the bottom of the feature to the top opening and down the front. It was easy to install after removing the old pump and plug in to the electrical supply cord running to the fountain.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good operating small submersible pump I had decided to give this submersible pump a try in our wishing well that is in our garden. I hooked it up and it immediately started moving water through the hoses and out the top outlet. This pump is only 10 GHP larger than the pump that failed but seams to be flowing much more water. The only drawback is that it is twice as large as my original pump, so there is a limit to how small of sump you have. I would have given it 5 stars if it was smaller.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for small jobs This is a good submersible pump for small jobs around the house. I am using it to run a small fountain in my landscaping and it is doing a good job of moving the water. The only drawback is the size of the pump. My previous pump I used was smaller but seemed to move the water just as well. But I am still able to conceal the pump in the landscaping. I also plan to use the pump to drain water off my pool cover in the winter and early spring.
