Product Overview

This bench is made from premium grade Eucalyptus Grandis hardwood, grown in 100% well managed forests in Brazil. There is little difference between Eucalyptus and Teak when broken down to their core essence. The biggest attribute of Eucalyptus is undoubtedly the strength of the timber. It's renowned for its excellent resistance to every day wear and tear. It is extremely durable and tightly grained to produce a desirable density. It remains unaffected by all variations in weather, especially its resistance to damp conditions makes itself extremely competent at combating insect attacks and decay.

Customer Questions & Answers

Will this bench stand up to wind and weather? I would like to place this bench in my garden where it will not be protected from the elements.

Asked by: Joern
Suggest a base coat of boiled linseed oil PRIOR to assembly! This will seal the wood from the elements and yet still be able to apply a top-coat finish. For a top coat, 2-3 coats of a quality EXTERIOR polyurethane (either semi-gloss, satin, or gloss finish, your choice), should keep it looking OK for at least 4-5 years (depending on where you live). Additional coats when the finish starts looking tired, unless, of course, the wood has rotted out by then....

are the screw heads visible when this is assembled?

The one thing I dislike with assembled furniture is seeing the fasteners. Are they visible when this is assembled or are they hidden by plugs or some other means

I followed the advice of some of the other reviewers and sanded and applied a layer of teak oil to the wood before I assembled it. I am glad I did. I would heartily recommend making your life easier by doing the same thing. I assembled it by myself and getting the long screws in was no problem. I think that the teak oil acted as a lubricant to a certain degree. The only problem I experienced was screwing in the bench portion. I overtightened one of the long screws and it "popped" and tore out the wood in the screw hole. Be gentle when tightening the screws that attach the part you sit on to the frame. The bench seems very sturdy and looks wonderful. If I had to do it all over again the only thing I would change is I would have gotten a bench with a curved back. For the price this is a stellar deal, but a curved back is worth a few extra dollars if you are going to be sitting for any length of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bench I've been in the market for a good quality bench for my front patio and was considering teak. I use to work for a company who marketed teak furniture so so I am quite familiar with its quality and know it really is the best. However teak is so expensive and I would be heart broken if someone stole it. I decided on this bench after finding good reviews from other sites. It's a light weight bench and the quality is superior to others I've seen on the market. As with most benches it will require a rub down with oils to keep its luster. If you want to purchase a bench cushion, dimensions are 45 inches long x 18 inches wide x 2.5 inches deep. I purchased several cushions before finding the right size and this is it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks nice but some negatives I loved the look of this bench online....and it looks pretty nice in person as well. It seems sturdy and was really pretty easy to put together. My only complaint is that the bend seat had a few nicks and scratches when it arrived. The package was not damaged in any way so it was either that way when it was packaged or should have had some padding in the box to prevent the boards from hitting each other in transit. I am thinking a little stain and it should be fine, but it was a little disappointing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Benches We ordered 2 benches for a Girl Scout Community Service project. We opened the first one and it was broken. We returned them both and went with another company for our benches. Not happy at all.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from You Get What You Pay For.... Product came well packed but the wood still had numerous dings, dents, worm holes and cracks in it, obviously there when it was shipped. One crack went the whole length of the top rail on the back rest. Almost every screw used to attach the supports was stripped (over-tightened) and had to be replaced and re-glued. Wood is some sort of poor quality Vietnamese wood that is rather soft and with basically a poor washed-on stain/finish that was very rough. Had to sand & refinish everything prior to assembly. Instructions were a single printed drawing of the parts and the finished assembled product. Not too difficult to figure out but be sure not to over-tighten the screws -- they WILL strip out due to the soft wood! Overall, it may last 1-2 years out in the weather unless you put some other weatherproof finish on it first. Basically, not too bad of a bench but, "You get what you pay for...."
