At around $5 per bag (don't forget Governor's lunch money) looks like >$400 !
Don't forget about disposing the plastic bags and bits.

Answer:
500 sq feet x 12 inches = 500 cu feet. So 2 inch deep would be 1/6 of 500. Therefore 500 cu feet divided by 6 = 84 cu feet. If the bag covers 1/2 (0.5) cu ft as it says then you would need 84 times 2 or 168 bags of rocks.

Answer:
Generally, a cubic yard of mulch covers 100 sq feet while stone covers 80 to 100 sq feet depending on size of stone. So you will need about 300 bags. that's a lot of trips if you only have a standard pickup truck

I think it says that the bag is 0.5 cu. ft., so to get a cu. yard (27 cu. ft.), you would need 54 bags.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 44 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect landscaping rocks! These rocks work perfectly for flower beds! I put some weed barrier down, then these rocks on top! Made a huge difference to the look of the flower bed. Definitely getting more! April 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by River pebbles Just what I wanted exactly. I recommend them. Beautiful color. September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good size rocks These rocks are a perfect size for rock gardens. In between pea gravel and river rocks. They show brown or tan, but they are more gray. They seem to have become very popular so get them while you can and pick up an extra bag or two . I needed another bag to finish and they sold out quickly. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love this ground cover My nephew suggested this as ground cover, because he knows I do not cut grass or like yard work. He placed landscape fabric over the bare ground, then used these to cover the yard. Due to work commitments he was not able to complete spreading the river pebbles. Since he did have the bags staged in the area, I opened and spread them (with a little improvising). After 2 months I still call him to say "I love my yard". Maintenance free - Yay. August 9, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good value when on sale Adequate for the project I was completing. These were on sale for $2.50 per bag when I purchased them so were a good value at that time. Price has gone up now. August 16, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by no longer the multi colored gray/blue stone from years ago I purchased a lot of this stone a few years ago to use in my backyard. It was the typical multi color blue/gray based river stone; i loved it. I just purchased more and after opening two bags I realized the color is drastically different. It is now a tan/off white color spectrum and totally looks out of place next to my old stuff. I had to return the rest. I remember in the past that the "pond pebbles" and "pea pebbles" were tan color based, but the river ones were larger and different color. I didn't have time to try another HD store to see if they were any different. Instead I went to the L competitor and bought some pond stone from there which while a bit smaller pieces and slightly darker then what I want, but a much better match. April 24, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Good for really small jobs Rockyard is around $35 per 1000lbs. This price is $70 per 1000 lbs. If your project gets you into the 10 bag range you are better off going to the rockyard. If you only need 2-3 bags this would be ok. May 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice color variation I purchased about 40 bags last year and 20 already this year. I was worried at first because they were all tan/brown colored but once the dirt was washed off they were really nice. The only complaint I had was that I did not buy all my bags at the same time last year and the second batch was noticeably smaller than the first bags. April 29, 2016
