Does first frost stop this fertilizer?

I stopped into Home Depot to buy some lawn fertilizer and a few choices were given. I picked this product. The bag stated to use while lawn is actively growing. So I did. A few days later our first frost came in MA. How effective was this application?
Asked by: Ed
The first frost does not mean that your grass stopped growing. It is certainly a sign that things are about to slow down and come to a stop relatively soon, but your grass was still growing. Your timing wasn't actually bad, your lawn benefited. Best practice would also suggest that you put down another application of a high nitrogen fertilizer after it stops growing, but is still green. This will allow the nitrogen to be stored as carbohydrates in the grass over the winter and help it turn green in the spring.

15,000 sq. ft. Lawn Fertilizer is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product and Value I believe Vigoro Lawn Fertilizer with ASSURANCE Particle Technology 15,000 sq ft coverage is one of the better values in the fertilizer isle at your local Home Depot store. This particular fertilizer is 29% nitrogen and weighs 44.4 pounds. So if you apply it at bag rate, you will put down slightly less than 1lb (.86lb) of nitrogen per 1,000 square feet. Although that is not totally ideal, it is a bit better than another leading brand which delivers .80lbs per 1,000 square feet, and Vigoro is about $4.00 less. So, after doing the math, I will (and have) recommended Vigoro Lawn Fertilizer to many friends and family members.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greens and Thickens the Lawn while Distroying Weeds Within days after an application, my lawn turned a deeper shade of green, and I noticed the weeds were shriveled and dying. To keep my yard looking its best, I follow Vigoro's annual fertilization plan to keep my grass green in apperance; kill weeds, and pervent new weeds from germinating. A regularly fertilzed and watered lawn helps deepen root growth! FYI; By keeping your lawn cut to 3", the roots will grow deeper, and need less water. Help prevent water polution, comply with EPA and Vigoro's directions for proper application conditions, and feeding rates to maximize effectiveness, while minimizing fertilizer runoff into nearby rivers and lakes. .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from green up my Lawn in the middle of July I put this on my lawn in mid-July when it was starting to yellow a little and get dry. I put this on my lawn and withing about a week and a half my lawn bounced back and came in lush and green. I have made no changes to my water schedule and it's done wonders for my lawn. The downside is that my lawn now grows faster and a little thicker as a result. I would highly recommend this for new and established lawns.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from VIGORO WEED AND FEED I applied this product to my lawn a little over two weeks ago and am very disappointed with the results that was achieved. I followed the directions on the bag to the letter and got less than satisfactory results. The grass exploded with out of control growth but the thing that bothered me the most was the explosive GROWTH OF THE WEEDS. This product did NOTHING to kill off any weeds in the lawn. On the contrary the weeds enjoyed this product and are not showing ANY signs of dying off like they are supposed to. The reviews of this product should signal to this company that the product is JUNK and should be discontinued..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to apply Vigor is a well known brand of lawn care chemicals. It was easy to apply using a hand-held spreader, a push spreader, and a large pull behind spreader. I decided to try all three types because some users may not have the bigger spreaders. The granule size was consistent and there were no clumps, even after the sealed bag sat out in the rain in it's shipping box for several hours before I realized that it had been delivered. I will not know how well it actually greens up the lawn for a week or two. It has been down for 24-hours and the rain last night soaked it into the lawn, so I expect the results the show soon.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Green the lawn This product worked with my hand held and my push fertilizer spreader. It stated to turn grass green in 72 hours, maybe because of the heat it took an extra 2 days. But the grass looks great where we had little grass it filled out the bare spot. the grass all around looks a lot more healthy than before, I should have a nice full green lawn now. I am very happy with the results even though it took a little longer it was worth the wait...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vigoro starter fertilizer My backyard continues to be a work in progress. I used Vigoro starter fertilizer last fall to get grass started after having some trees dug up. The starter fertilizer along with rye grass seeds and watering brought the grass right up. I had a lush back yard but since the rye grass is a cool season grass I needed new grass in the spring. We had a strong rain that washed my seeds away along with some of the dirt. I needed some leveling before applying more seed and fertilizer. I don’t have pictures yet since I’m just re-seeding but I used this same brand last fall and the grass was up within two weeks. With the warm weather and plenty of water I expect to have the same results again. The 54-pound bag covers 15,000 square feet and is guaranteed to work the first time or your money back. I can confirm it works that’s why this is the brand I wanted for my second seeding.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vigoro Starter for Lawns This product is easy to spread using any standard spreader whether handheld or mechanical. Particles are tiny enough to get down into the soil quickly. Bag has enough fertilizer to feed a huge lot. I have 3/4 of an acre and 1/2 that is lawn. It did my whole half acre with no problem. Just in a week the grass is green and healthy. Growing super fast in the warm sun. Works on shade and sun type grasses. Nice product.
