Will the grass only last a year?

I am trying to choose a grass seed to fix my lawn which was ravaged by grubs and harsh sun. I applied Bayer 24 hour grub killer today to kill any gruvs and will also put down GrubEx (its May) to kill the grubs for next season. I want to seed the lawn so it will grow in the spots which the grubs killed but a few articles I read online mentioned that this Vigoro grass had a lot of annual seed in it, which only grows for the year and will need to be re-seeded next year. Is there a better seed I can buy that will not only last one season in the Northeast? (I planted Scotts last year and was very underwhelmed by the percent of the seeds that did not germinate ... and they wriggled out of their 'no quibble guarantee' which means I will never buy another of their products, so no more Scotts seeds for me). Any recommendations would be welcome.

One year later, it survived winter but berly, the grass color is the same as a new grass, the quality is the same, very few and far in between stalks now. It looks like it is all ray grass. It is horrible to maintain and u useless if you want to walk on it. I lost so much energy putting it in.
If you need a fast ground coverage like in a week then yes, but now in the perspective I probably would take this grass and mix it wth some really good expensive grass and that way maybe I would have both? fast grass and the over years grass?
do try small amount first somewhere on tinny patch so you will know how thin it is.
Oh, also, after one year,.. it still grows fast like crazy and not slow and mature way, so if you miss a weekly cutting it will go up to your knee like a weed. Grass does not do that.

This seed is designed to cover fast and allow the perennials in the mix to establish. It is dual purpose- FAST new lawn and a lasting lawn. The answer is It will last longer than a year. In fact it will give you a lawn. If you have predators like grubs you need to use a grub preventative. Harsh sun however can be dealt with a mix that is region specific. you need a whole lot of seeds to get anywhere with this as it is very thin thin thin stalks and it does not spread much at all. so you will get grass where the seed is basically even the next year. this is a cheap contractor's grass with mostly ray grass in it that grows like a weed not like a lawn grass. and you can not walk on it nor cut it without totally destroying it where you walk or cutter wheels Read More

Answer:
This mixture of grass seed is for Northern United States. You need to see what types of seed will grow in Africa and compare it to the seed mixtures on this bag to see if it will work.

I don't know if this grass seed would work in Africa. I would contact a local nursery in Africa and ask them what type of seeds will work there. Then just compare on what they tell you to what is said on this bag of grass seed.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by LOTS OF GROWTH IN JUST 6 DAYS! I thought it would take me a month of waiting to post this review but look how much grass has grown in just 6 days! Needless to say I am very happy and it is not even planting season. The bag says the best time is spring or fall. The conditions right now are actually not favorable and yet it is really thriving. I do plan on repeating it in the fall under the right conditions. Whether you need some patching up, filling in or just a new lawn, this seed works great. I love that it is a combination of different grasses too. So far the color is a nice rich green and it hasn't even fully sprouted. I highly recommend ! Just follow the directions on the bag. Couldn't be easier! June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome product I planted this seed on 5/21/2016 and already have a full lawn. I also used the Vigoro starter fertilation with this product and within 4 days the seed started to germinate. I highly recommend this product!!!! June 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Seed I've used. Vigoro Contractors All Purpose Grass Seed is the Best seed I've ever used. I worked up the island in front of my house after several attempts to seed had failed. I then thought how do they get grass to grow on construction sites without sod. Then I seen Vigoros Contractor Seed and I tried it. It Worked. I have a beautiful thick plush lawn. It also works great on bare spots and repairs. Great Product. May 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Reliable seeds I tend to be skeptical of products that "work everywhere in every conditions" but I have used these "contractor" seeds in the past and always have good results. Following winter, my lawn needed some slight repairs. I simply raked a bit, added some compost, seeded, and watered three times a day. After a week, germination is well under way. I regularly buy Vigoro products, such as vegetable and herbs plants, and I am always happy with their products. This is a good size bag of seeds: don't hurt your back! May 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Plumped up my lawn! This seed really helped to plump up my lawn. All I had to do was rake the surface, spread the seed and set up my sprinkler. After watering for a few days, the seed began to sprout in even the driest, sandiest of spots. It does take a little bit of nurturing, but so far I'm impressed by the results. It really makes my lawn look more lush and green and helped even out some brown spots. July 12, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Green Lawn For the short time I have had this grass seed it appears to work fine in some areas and not so good in some other areas. This may not be the fault of the seed as I have 4 dogs which can make some areas hard to have grass grow in. In the areas where its growing, it shows some good coverage and growth, may have to over seed and add some new soil to other areas to get the seed started. As I said may not be the seed causing the lack of growth. Seed bag has a resealable feature which is nice for storage. June 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Better than more expensive competition I've been planting grass both for a better front yard, as well as erosion control. At first I started with the 7 pound bags of Scotts grass seed that was coated with something to hold in moisture, as well as fertilizer and fungicide, I believe. It worked, but was quite expensive. The seeds coating is blue. Next I went to Scott's 20 pound bag of "contractor" sun and shade mid - it's a bit more expensive and this Vigoro by a few dollars. It's claim to being better is that it, too, has a special coating, but only to retain more moisture. It worked, but seemed to have a lot of seeds that didn't sprout...and it took around 7 days to see anything coming up. The seed coating on this is white. After that, I figured I'd save a few bucks and go with this Vigoro "contractor" grass seed. It doesn't appear to have any coating, just grass seed. It was planted on Sunday, and was coming up the following Thursday. While we certainly didn't let it dry it, it seems to grow faster without the coating, which is good. It's growing well, and it too looks like it has plenty of seeds that didn't sprout, but at least it's cheaper and grew faster. All in all, this is the seed I'm sticking with when I need lots in bulk. Since trying the three various types, I've gone back and and purchases two more tags of this stuff...it's fast, sprouts as much as the competition, and is cheaper! July 17, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Worked for me! I used this Vigoro contractors all purpose seed when I had to move my raised bed gardens. After I rototilled the area, I added starter fertilizer to the soil. I than spread the grass seed by hand making sure to spread it evenly. I raked the seed into the soil. I then set my sprinklers to water lightly twice a day to keep the soil moist. The seed started to spout in about 10 days. I have no complaints with this seed, It worked for me. June 20, 2016
