Will the grass only last a year?

I am trying to choose a grass seed to fix my lawn which was ravaged by grubs and harsh sun. I applied Bayer 24 hour grub killer today to kill any gruvs and will also put down GrubEx (its May) to kill the grubs for next season. I want to seed the lawn so it will grow in the spots which the grubs killed but a few articles I read online mentioned that this Vigoro grass had a lot of annual seed in it, which only grows for the year and will need to be re-seeded next year. Is there a better seed I can buy that will not only last one season in the Northeast? (I planted Scotts last year and was very underwhelmed by the percent of the seeds that did not germinate ... and they wriggled out of their 'no quibble guarantee' which means I will never buy another of their products, so no more Scotts seeds for me). Any recommendations would be welcome.

I'm using a drop spreader. I need to know where to set spreader for the grass seed

Asked by: Drew
you need a whole lot of seeds to get anywhere with this as it is very thin thin thin stalks and it does not spread much at all. so you will get grass where the seed is basically even the next year. this is a cheap contractor's grass with mostly ray grass in it that grows like a weed not like a lawn grass. and you can not walk on it nor cut it without totally destroying it where you walk or cutter wheels go.

It is an annual grass which means it will only grow for one year and then die. If you put this seed down in the fall, in New England, half of it won't come back in the spring so it's a waste of time and money. I didn't realize this so now I have to re-seed in the spring. After some research I read that Panterra rye grass was developed for Texas winters because their summer grass goes dormant in the winter. This shouldn't be sold in the NorthEast in the Fall.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good blend of grass seed at a reasonable price. I can say that this blend of grass seed is a good mixture of types of seed. It has 30% annual seed and that means that it will come up quickly, but not next year. The rest of the seed types are perrenial which means that it will come up next year. You will most likely have to over seed next year. If you need grass in a hurry and don't mind a little re-seeding this is an economical way to go. To plant just read the very simple instructions on the bag and follow them and you will have good results. If you want to compare grass seed ALWAYS TURN THE BAG OVER AND LOOK FOR THE CHART WITH THE BLEND OF SEED. DO NOT BUY A BAG WITH ANY WEED SEEDS AS YOU WILL ONLY FIND OUT WHAT THEY ARE AFTER THE WEEDS ARE GROWING AND THEY MAY BE VERY HARD TO GET THEM UNDER CONTROL.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful lawn I bought this based on a recommendation and was not disappointed. I detatched my lawn before putting the seeds down. I thought they would not germinate because it was at the start of October in long island. To my surprise they did germinate and spread within 2 weeks. To this date December 12, the grass looks green and full of life compared to all the neighbors yards that already look brown. I even had to cut the grass a few days ago because the grass is still growing, Not to mention that we have had freezing temperatures for the past 2 weeks. Will definitely buy again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vigaro Grass seed My one section of yard by my porch needed some healthy grass growth and this seed once set in place took a few days to begin germinating but numerous small patches are beginning to sprout up and hopefully I will finally have a nice area of healthy grass. There is more than enough grass seed to do my entire yard if I want to and which I make just to add some more bulk to my yard. So far I am satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Seed Just spread this seed in a heavy traffic area that the doggies love. Too early to tell results and will update review after a month. I have always had good results with Vigoro products including their fertilizer and seed.Last year added some fill to low areas on my property and then Vigoro starter fertilizer and seed.As usual happy with results. Its nice to save a few bucks and get a good product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOTS OF GROWTH IN JUST 6 DAYS! I thought it would take me a month of waiting to post this review but look how much grass has grown in just 6 days! Needless to say I am very happy and it is not even planting season. The bag says the best time is spring or fall. The conditions right now are actually not favorable and yet it is really thriving. I do plan on repeating it in the fall under the right conditions. Whether you need some patching up, filling in or just a new lawn, this seed works great. I love that it is a combination of different grasses too. So far the color is a nice rich green and it hasn't even fully sprouted. I highly recommend ! Just follow the directions on the bag. Couldn't be easier!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Quility Grass Seed With Quick Growth This contractor's all purpose grass seed by Vigoro is good quality and grows quickly. This grass seed grows good in both sun and shade. All grass seed needs plenty of water so its roots will be strong and not burn out by the sun's rays. I just put this seed down with a hand spreader since I was doing different areas and not my entire front yard. I put new loam down first, then hand spread this grass seed and then I put new loam down on top of the grass seed. I should see new grass grow in within five days. You cannot cut your new lawn until its 4 inches in length otherwise the lawnmower will pull out the new blades of grass. I have used Vigoro products in the past and have had no complaints.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fertile Seed - you will not be disappointed in this filler!!! I don't usually leave reviews but this grass seed is better than ANY I have ever put down during summer. Spring and fall are when you seed but I had some areas that I was really working on converting from a garden to yard....granted the soil content was prime but this stuff came up in a week! Sprouted in a few days. Give it water and it will come through for you every time. Getting more now for my fall seeding...not wasting time or money with the other seeds that grow grass that dies out. This is for real! No need for all of that filler that other companies use to say the seed will sprout....this does without any of the science....all natural!
