• Kill all weeds. Spray with a non-selective weed killer two weeks before planting.
• Next step was to till the soil to a depth of about six inches, mixing in lime, and organic matter.
• I leveled the area and filled low spots.
• I spread seed at the recommended amount.

Answer:
In order to prepare the lawn for seeding, you will need to break down the soil. Be sure to work with an even surface and clear any debris within the soil bed.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 15 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Starts strong, but does not endure even moderate heat. I used this product on a freshly tilled and prepared area. The soil was amended with organic material and leveled. I live in Atlanta and the seed was planted in September. A beautiful stand of fescue sprouted in a few weeks. The yard received regular watering and flourished through the winter. It looked fantastic until early spring (mid-May), when we began experiencing consistent temperatures into the 80s. The lawn started thinning and turning brown. The brown was evenly dispersed throughout the lawn, not just big patches. I feel that the seed mixture used is well-suited for cooler temperatures, but certainly will not tolerate typical weather in the south. I am familiar with fescue and understand that it is necessary to overseed again in the fall. I did not however, expect the grass to start dying and turning brown so early in the season. I really am dreading what it will look like in July. June 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by grass keep re seeding every two weeks and water everyday May 27, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Blah Been well over 3 weeks and not a single blade. Following instructions to a T does no good. Plenty of water... I'd like to think I'd get SOME growth, but after practically getting down close, could not find one new blade of grass. The bag date said it was current, but seems seed is dead! No germination at all. June 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful Product I have never written a review before anything bought from Home Depot and I rarely write reviews for that matter. However, I am so impressed with this product, that I thought it would be nice to let others know. I have bought many different types of grass seeds. Germination rates were usually sporadic, but this Vigoro Tall Fescue grass seed probably has near 100% germination rate. The grass itself is green, grows rapidly with little treatment or watering and remains so all through the season. This is perhaps the best grass seed that is out there on the market. Highly recommended!! April 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I have grass! I tilled the areas of my lawn that had weeds, I raked and removed the unwanted plants, and we seeded with Vigaro Tall Fescue. We followed the directions and saw very frail sprouts at two weeks, and the grass has gotten more dense and broader blade each day. The photo is at four weeks. Very happy with the results. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Grows like it should Let me start by saying that I am by no means a lawn care professional. All I did to make this seed grow was break up the top layer of soil, mix in some topsoil and put the seed down. I've been keeping it watered for around three weeks now and the areas are really filling in. Do some basic research on how to grow grass and this seed will work. I have not seen any weeds pop up in the areas where this seed was used. October 13, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worked really well! I'd never used grass seed before, but we had ripped out several large patches of weeds and wanted some grass without spending much money. I put this down with a broadcast spreader, added some fertilizer, put a thin layer of compost on top, and then watered for 12 minutes 3 times per day for 2 weeks. Within about 6 days I had little sprouts coming up, and now that it's 2 weeks since seeding it's actually starting to look like part of the lawn. Some friends' kids even ran through it yesterday and it looks like it was pretty resilient. I'm sure it'll take some time for it to fill in completely, but I'm really impressed with how easy it was. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It actually grows First time home owner. Parents purchased me two different brands of no name seed from Ace Hardware. Did all the proper prep to plant, watered twice to three times per day and the seed still would not grow. I tried sod from HD, which was in rough shape when I got it, that did not grow. I researched seed online and saw this seed which offers a money back guarantee. I figured it was worth the risk for $11. I have to say this seed is fantastic. You can literally just sprinkle the seed on top of bare spots and it will grow if not washed away. Make sure you water properly, but this stuff thrives in either sun or shade, and I cannot say enough good things about it. Don't be cheap when buying seed, you get what you pay for. I have filled in almost every bare spot in my yard including a very large patch in the front yard where the water company dug up my lawn. I have only had it growing a season so I cannot vouch for its longevity, but so far so good. June 21, 2015
