Why is the bottom shaped in a Z-pattern?

I can understand having a flap facing up, perhaps to help secure it in the ground, but the other flap is facing down, which seems to be counterproductive. Very confused newbie here.
Asked by: JT
The shape is to help it stay in the ground, if it was smooth it would come out too easy

60 ft. Plastic Lawn Edging is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Well Separating Lawn Grass From Flower Beds Have purchased this product twice over last five years. Use it to keep lawn grasses from growing into flower beds. Installation involves laying down a string at the edge of the grass then digging a vertical trench 4 inches deep. Place the edging up against the face of the grass then use nails to fasten the edging to the lawn facing. Upper lip of edging should be just above grass. Back fill with topsoil in the flower beds. I used 6 inch exterior galvanized timber ties available at Home Depot for 21 cents each. Work better than plastic stakes and are more durable and less expensive. Laying edging in sun to soften does the job. Can turn corners with edging in a fairly tight arch(add additional nails). Installed edging will hold a straight line for the first year or two. Over time the edging will waiver slightly but not unattractive.

Not to me! It does the job just fine and not having seams every 20 feet more than makes up for the thinness! It is not paper thin or anything like that but it is thinner than the 20 foot pro quality stuff I have worked with. It is just as deep just not as thick!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from depends on what your needs are I bought this edging to make wells around my trees and roses to save water which it works great. I use nuts and bolts with large washers to connect the ends together with liquid nails to stop the ends from leaking water. I also ran it along my front flower bed also to save water run off but it was a bit difficult to get a straight line I had to run a string line on stakes to keep it straight but it came out ok with extra care. after I installed the edging I placed native rocks to make it look more natural. No wasting water in the California desert we use every drop for our plants.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 2 to 3 person job I had recently landscaped my lawn and wanted to use this for a rock bed. It helped that we had dug deep and wide to get this in there. It's a big job to unravel, set up, nail it in and fill the holes. I was def glad I had the help! I recommend this lightly. If you're commited, go for it, if u get frustrated easily or don't have a ton of patience, hire someone!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value Sixty feet of curled up plastic is a hassle, but it's a great value. The plastic likes to stay curled, but I got it flattened by unwinding all of it and placing nice, heavy bricks on either end. I left it like that in the sun for a day, and kept it like that as I started trenching out the edge of the garden I'm building. After a day and a half in the sun, the plastic was happy to be whatever shape I wanted it in. The plastic isn't as rigid as I'd like when it comes to twisting and warping, so I had to be careful when I backfilled the trench, otherwise I'd end up with areas laying slightly over in one way or another. Since it's not rigid, it's not very well suited to areas that require a super-straight line. It'll work in a pinch, but you just won't get the same effect you'd get from metal. On the plus side, it cuts with garden shears, which is a plus if you bought the long roll for multiple areas.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for the Jobs I need Laying the roll out all day in the sun all day helps to flatten it out. Easy to use, just don't expect a nice line unless you're doing it along a paved edge already. Have used thicker ones in the past that's better Quality, but this is fine for smaller areas
