This is a wonderful grass seed. It can be used in either sun or shade which works great for me as my backyard has a mix of both. It is not drought tolerant while you're trying to get it to germinate so you must keep it well watered until it is well established. Sprouting happens in 7-12 days. As the bag states, the best time to plant is spring or fall. The seed is very weed free--such a blessing. The price of this seed is very good particularly in light of how weed free the seed is. And Vigoro guarantees it to grow or your money back. The seven pound bag covers 4200 square feet. It is suitable for medium traffic areas. There is all sorts of information on the bag such as preparation, mowing, fertilizing, and care.

Very easy to use. We planted in two areas. One in an area that has sunshine thru the day and the other in a shady area with a large pine tree that has both shade and afternoon sun. Very little prep time . Just spread the seed and water the areas twice a day. In a short period o time the grass started to grow, Within a week and a half grass was showing. It has a dark green color and looks great.

I've tried for the past three seasons to grow grass from seed in a bare patch with no success. Our 85 pound dog has worn through the sod down to the dirt, the area retains too much water, and it only gets sun for a couple hours in the late afternoon. I wasn't overly hopeful for this seed but after only two weeks and only watering for the first couple days there's a very good amount of grass sprouting. I couldn't be happier and would highly recommend this to anyone trying to repair their lawn

I have spots in my yard that get both sun and shade throughout the day and they tend to become bare so I got this to try to fill in the bare spots. I spread it out generously and have kept it watered. I can tell that it has sprouted but haven't gotten quite the results I was hoping for but since we haven't had the warm summer sun, I'm hoping it will fill in with the next go round of seed. I'll try to update a month down the road as to the results.

Got a bag of this seed because I have some large bare spots in my backyard and I was looking to fill out the area. The area doesnt get a lot of sun in the morning, but does towards the end of the day. This product is perfect for the area. I put it down generously and covered the area lightly with some fill. The grass is starting to sprout and looks pretty good. It is critical to keep it constantly moist. Overall, very happy with the purchase.

We have a hard time growing anything other than native grasses here in our harsh environment, and sometimes even those do not grow, but this seed has sprouted and grown beautifully. Hopefully, we get it to last more than one year - which is our usual length of grass survival. At this point, it looks very healthy and hardy. Time will tell whether it can survive our environment or not.

After trying Scotts and Rebel brand seeds for many years unsuccessfully in an area that experiences sun and shade all day long and doggie run-trails and diggings, I started researching types of grass seeds and their characteristics. I found that the "tall fescues", although quick to germinate and cover an area, are primarily annuals and require regular re-seeding because they have a single-plant-root system that does not spread and if killed by drought, pests, traffic, etc., it is permanently gone.
Vigoro's Sun and Shade seed mixture has CREEPING RED FESCUE which, despite its name, is not red and its root system has multiple creepers that keep spreading to create dense and hardy plants. This mixture also has Kentucky Blue Grass and a small percent of Tall Fescue. This is a fenced area mainly for dog-usage and NEVER gets fertilized or treated with insecticides, yet stays green and lush in all seasons because as one type of seed goes dormant the other seeds take over.
It has been over seven years that I switched to Vigoro's Sun and Shade mix and I am extremely impressed with its performance with just an occasional light seed application in some patches created by extra energetic activity by the dogs.
