Customer Questions & Answers

Granular(slow release) fertilizer is usually not recommended for container plants, Water soluble(fast release) fertilizer is better. If you insist on granular then I would use 1/2 tablespoon per 6" wide planter, a 24" planter would need 2 tablespoons.

What is the best acid plant foods for my hydrangeas?

Asked by: WMS
Hi WMS. Thank you for your question. Depending on which hydrangea you have and what your soil acidity level is like, will be the best determining factor as to what will be the best fertilizer for your hydrangeas. Espoma has a good choice of pH up and pH down fertilizers. I you already have an acidic soil and a low pH, your hydrangeas have a good possibility to come out blue. For soils on the opposite end of the scale, with a high pH will have more of a tendency to produce hydrangea blooms more in the red variety. Do a soil test before you plant your putting your hydrangeas. You can use an electronic soil tester: The Home Depot also carries the chemical testers as well: That will help you to determine which will be the best fertilizer for your soil. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. Rick_HD_OC

Do you recommend this for promoting citrus flowering in spring?

I have several citrus trees and I am having trouble with my trees producing fruit. Since flowers = fruit, I was wondering if I could use this to promote flowering on my tree.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Garden Transformation I love flowers, but am not a gardener. After a decade of my husband "managing" the garden of our new home, I bought some plants at Home Depot and took the salesman's recommendation to add this product to encourage blooms. I used it all over the yard and my garden was transformed! The whole yard was lush and green and stuffed with beautiful blooms. Needless to say I'm using it again this year. I urge you to try it if you love flowers--especially if you're not a gardener.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My wife loves it I can't say much more than the title plus our flower beds are a barrage of blooms. My only connection to Bold Blooms is that I paid for it and brought it home- my wife is the gardener.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally, A Granular for Blooms I am delighted to see that Home Depot is carrying a granular fertilizer for blooms, vegetables, and even azaleas! I looked for such a fertilizer this early spring and could not find any. My old standby Colorburst granular, which gave me wonderful results with blooming flowers, was discontinued and a spray-on took its place. I would not buy a spray-on fertilizer. I'm a busy person who has enough things to remember without adding "when was the last time I sprayed" to it. With a granular, I don't worry about over-fertilizing--probably because I DO follow the directions. I don't have to keep reapplying during the season. And granular is easy to apply and takes little effort. Work into soil and let it do the rest of the work for the rest of the summer. I've got many, many, healthy big blooms in my window and deck boxes. I am now trying the Vigoro granular mix for my azaleas. I hope it helps them perform better. Time will tell, but I have confidence. THANK YOU Home Depot for carrying Vigoro products and THANK YOU Vigoro for making them! Please, please, continue.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Highly dissapointed I have been looking for a high phosphorous fertilizer for quite some time. I was very excited when I found this product. Went straight home after buying this product and began applying (or may be I should say trying to apply) it to my beds. This is supposed to be a granular product. What I got was clumps of a thick paste like mixture. It was like trying to spread oatmeal. I ended up throwing it in the trash. What a mess. I was very disappointed.
