Customer Questions & Answers

what is the 3-element ratio?

I don't know why these spikes never state what the plant food ratio is but I would like to know. How much nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium and does it have minor elements if so what? If you can't get this in the store, they need to say it or show the package to where people can read it.

should you use these spikes on trees planted in the last 6 months? Reading websites says no fertilizing first two years however neighbors tell me fertilize! New here to Arizona and dont know what to do? My lime tree has light green leaves which is a Nitrogen deficiency thats why im thinking fertilizer as well.
Asked by: Nina
You can use these now. I have multiple fruit trees in pots and have grown them from seed and I have been using these since they broke through the ground. Mine keep getting bigger and more leaves each year. No fruit yet, but it takes about 5 years of growth first.

Very easy to insert the spike into the pot. I just put the white cap on and can tap them in with a rubber mallet. If going into the ground you might want to soak the area good first. I used them on my lemon, grapefruit, lime, pomegranate and avocado trees. All of them must love it because they are about 6-8 ft. now. So much easier than mixing or spraying feed on them. After 4 years in the pots some are starting to bloom and give fruit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good! I do recommend this product reasons: Easy to use. One citrus spike per tree. Make sure to dig a 4-6" hole before hammering the spike in. Distance from the trunk about 8" to a foot. Hammer dwn the spike using the plastic white cap provided. Don't hit the cap too hard as you could break both the cap and the citrus spike. Water the area before you dig and spike. Be sure to do all of this before a good rain comes because your citrus will shoot up quickly and nicely.

Good product, but Lx Lbs of 8-8-8 or 13-13-13 regular pelletized fertilizer is just as good, more effective, and MUCH cheaper! I'm going to return this and get regular fertilizer that I can use here and elsewhere. Note: There's not substitute for getting your soil analyzed by the LSU AgCenter to determine what primary and miconutrients your soil needs for the particular crop being grown!
