Hi there, Can this product be used in a big (about 7 feet tall) and heavy cactus tree that is growing all crooked and almost falling down? Let me know.
Asked by: catskat
I used it for a 15' southern live oak with a 2" diameter trunk with success. A 7' cactus would probably be no problem. I think the important factor is the diameter of the tree/cactus this system is used on. The package states it's for 2" - 3" diameter tree trunks. The hose pieces they provide are about 10" long and easily wrap around a small tree trunk to provide protection to the tree bark. A large diameter tree or cactus may rub against the rope rather than the rubber (garden hose) protective wraps. Each support rope is 10' long so you should have plenty of rope to stake a 7' cactus.

The concept is fine, but the rope that is supplied in this kit is very hard and slippery nylon, which has already come loose once in the 10 days we have been using it. The rest of the kit is fine, but who needs to buy a kit and then need to separately buy better rope so that it works as advertised? Better to just buy the parts separately and make your own kit.

Installed this kit on a young southern live oak after the original wooden stake cracked from strong wind. I've had the new 3-point staking system in place for two weeks now and the tree has made it through some very windy (20+ mph) conditions without any issues. The stakes are long and remain in the ground and the bright yellow ropes are easy to see for safety.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product This was fairly easy to put up. We did have to cut the cord and burn the ends. I am not sure why the manufacturers didn't just do that in the first place. Hard to tye the cord it kept coming undone but seams to be doing the job.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It works Need an extra set of hands to help. The stakes are heavy duty. The rope only lasted one season I reused everything else that was in the kit and just replaced the rope with a heavier duty one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not heavy duty Did not stand up to the Arizona wind last week. Big stakes are the way to go. Heavy duty is definitely misleading.
