Answer:
My Vision stone developed cracks after a few uses at <400F - I'm holding it together with pipe clamps. I'd probably bring it to high temp, then let it cool slowly with the cover closed. Yes, pizza's are cooked on the stone. I've done shrimp that way. A minute and a half each side at 350F.

Answer:
I didn't season mine when I first got it. You can do a pizza on it, but I would use a smooth pizza stone on the rack above the stone deflector. A bigger pizza will fit better on the pizza stone anyway. If you haven't used one before, be aware that the grill will take just a little longer to reach your desired temp. But, once it's there, it's awesome! Happy Grilling!

Answer:
Flipping the Lava Stone after every use will allow the grill to burn off any drippings from the previous cook. If you decide to use a brush, be sure that you DO NOT use any chemicals, or even soap. The porous nature of the stone will allow absorption of these unsavory flavors and affect your food.

I purchased my stone this past June, and I have never dropped it but it has broken in 3 pieces now. I would hope that something I paid $54 for would last for at least a year, if not longer. Would Home Depot replace it if brought it back?

In reply to THD Support answer, this was an online purchase. It had nothing to do with a local purchase, so me contacting the department expert at my local location would not be helpful if it was not a local purchase. My order number is W283418554 to show proof of my transaction. If I would have purchased it locally then I would have just went back to the store. Please advise again.

Answer:
The Lava Stone should be used with the cooking grate. Used as a heat deflector, it sits below the main cooking grate. When using as a cooking stone, you can sit it directly on the grate.

Answer:
It can be used either way. I grill shrimp directly on the stone and smoke pork butt, on the top grate, above the stone. A pan of water is on the lower grate. The stone helps keep the heat low & slow for smoking. BTW - they can crack easily - I have hose clamps around the outside to hold it together.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 146 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Completes the grill into a smoker very well Easy to use and insert into the grill. So easy to remove. May 17, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Its ok Cracked the first time the temp got up to 600 degrees for pizza. The stone did not crack the whole way through, but there is a visible crack through the center, but is still holding together after about 20 uses. Going to purchase a Acorn deflector and see if it will hold up to the high heat needed for grilled pizza. Also, the metal supports that hold the stone get twisted and distorted, even at low temps (250-300 degrees)...they are easily bent back into shape, but it is still a pain...for $50 bucks, I expected better. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Performs as exoected Great product expect to get about a year maybe 2 usage out of it depending on usage. Turns brittle over time due to constant heat which over time expands and contracts the composition of the product turning it brittle and eventually cracks apart. Constant cleaning after use may prolong life. Still a great product! April 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent so far I saw mixed reviews on the stone cracking pretty quickly after a few uses but I've not had that happen. Does a great job of distributing the heat around the inside of the pit. Recommend this for sure. April 12, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor Quality I purchased this lava plate along with my B-Series Kamado. Within 3 months my heat deflecting plate was cracking, and eventually crumbled into pieces after 5 months. Never dropped or mishandled, just poor quality product. I contacted Vision directly and they told me the warranty was only for 90 days. They proceeded to suggest I wrap the broken plate in foil to keep it together and continue use. That's like saying, "We know its cheap. Throw some duct tape on it and keep going." If you desire quality, this is a very poor investment with minimal backing from the manufacturer. February 1, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by As expected It's a good product that is over priced. The only way to purchase the stone is with the metal rig and the only way to purchase the metal rig is with the stone. As a heads up the metal rig will burn through in about 1 year with fairly heavy use. March 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love it!!!! Works wonderful! I love it! It helps keep the meat moist and not dry out. March 8, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by cracking rocks My first Vision smoker grill so I can't compare this stone to any others. After a few uses it started to crack. I put several pipe clamps around the outside. Seems to be holding up. Tried grilling shrimp directly on the stone surface. Shrimp picked up lots of charred bits from the dirty stone - not easy to clean. I've learned to flip it over after each grill session. June 9, 2015
