Answer:
We only recommend burning seasoned hardwood within the barrel as we have not tested the safety of the unit with any other fuel type.

Answer:
Google the melting point of steel and subtract about 45 percent from that, thats the approximate tolerance limit you'll have. Overheating it will shorten it's operational lifespan.

Not sure if we completely understand your question. However, we recommend you line the bottom of this stove with firebrick to allow for a longer burning lifespan.

You are much better off buying a new or refurbished tank that was originally intended for propane, the metal of this drum is too thin for for what you want to do with it, it wouldn't last long. If your serious about it there are numerous companies who will make you a custom cut and welded steel cylinder specifically for cooking, unless you know a friend with lots of spare time, who happens to own a welder/media blaster and a plasma cutter.
These custom jobs are typically not expensive, extremely well made and most companies are willing to either drop ship it VIA freight truck or have you come pick it up.

The Vogelzang 55 gal. Drum could have residue from oils still inside the drum, you will need to make sure it is burned off before using it for any cooking purpose.

Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 3 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by If you are looking for an old rusted barrel by from this vendor I was very upset when I received the two barrels I purchased. The barrels looked as if they were sitting outside for years in the rain. They were not the color that was shown on the website. They were discolored, multi-colored and rusted. I called customer service to complain and to process a return. Customer service placed a new order for one barrel this time and put in the notes that if the barrel did not look like what was pictured on the website do not process the order; cancel the order. Well I got the barrel from the second order and it was not exactly what was shown online. It had a little rust on it, the color was one color and looked old. It was not the gray color shown on the website and it had dents. Needless to say I returned this one as well. Home Depot should remove this item and this seller from their website. August 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This product is great for a home made barrel grill Well this product worked out perfect, I made a home made barrel grill and wanted a brand new barrel with no chemicals in it, the price was great compared to other prices that was out there and the shipping was super fast, it was delivered a week earlier than expected. This barrel is well worth it and I will not have to buy another grill for some years now, very impressed with over all product. May 28, 2014
