Answer:
I see no reason why it wouldn't do a good job for your cabin. It heats my garage quite well and it is uninsulated. My garage is the same size. I live in SD. Brrrrr, like alaska.

I have a relatively air-tight house, which might inhibit a smoke-free draft, without ready access to outside air for burning

Answer:
These stoves are not applicable to closed systems ( outside air supply ) they leak too much, outside air must be carefully controlled or you will create too much draft and have an inferno, due to the fact that wood stoves have an uncontrolled source of fuel.( ie unburned wood) Furnaces on the other hand, have a controlled amount of fuel and as such are much safer and easier to control the flame front.

Answer:
This stove does not have a Fresh air intake so it may not be the best choice for your home. Its performance may suffer. I would recommend looking at an EPA certified stove with a Fresh air intake for your situation. This will offer the best performance for you.

Because California has some of the most draconian laws in the world. Wood stoves are considered hazardous by the state, therefore, not acceptable.

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 14 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Superb small wood burning stove. 'The stove was very simple to put together. Even without the instructions a person with the ability to look at a picture could have assembled it in 20 minutes with the simplest of tools. I had it heating my garage in about 1 hour. January 28, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Cut too many corners In what appears to be an economy measure the lid casting has been flattened out so much that it no longer slides aside without knocking the "eyes" out and does not slide back without hanging on the top. Start your angle grinders. (But carefully as the castings are thinner than on the older ones.) Also, no amount of gradual warming up will keep the paint from burning with a room filling stench for the first week or so. I am only recommending this because there is little else out there in this design. March 31, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good little stove I have this in a 400 sqft cabin with a loft and it will put off more than enough heat. Great little stove. April 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by awesome I owned a stove like this 30 years ago back then they were called a Liberty stove paid 130 bucks then This one is IDENTICAL and having only used it once I can say nothing has changed with basic skills this stove is now heating my 2000 square foot home..........fans required to distribute of course. And with tapping into my water heater re circulater system to a tank mounted above it I have free hot water.....not to mention a cook top and grill and each summer it can be taken down and stored for the summer in the garage taking up very little space November 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wood burning stove We have really enjoyed the wood burning stove . It was easy to assemble and perfect size February 25, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by My Boxwood stove was broken on delivery! I took it out of the box just yesterday and the back of the stove is broken on the top. I didn't notice it until I had already thrown the box and the packaging away. Now I'm stuck with a broken stove. I guess it will still work but I'm very bummed that it's broken. I know that these stoves are not available in the store so I really don't know how I'm supposed to return it or if returns are even available for strictly on line purchases. September 11, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Product I'm very pleased with the cast iron stove and its capabilities. December 10, 2014
