The new Vornado iControl Digital Vortex Heat features a unique one-knob interface that puts all of the heater’s functions at your fingertips. Hello - What is the difference between the icontrol 1500 watt and the TVH600 besides the TVH600 case is metal and the other is plastic?
Asked by: BobB
The TVH600 Heater has a temperature range of 40° to 90° and an electronic touch screen on the top. There is a remote that links to the heater via a radio signal and if the remote is on, the heater will attempt to bring the room to the set temperature as sensed by the remote. If the remote is turned off, the heater will attempt to bring the room to the set temperature as sensed by the heater. With the remote, you can change the temperature setting on the heater as well as choose "Fan Only", "Low Heat" or "High Heat" , set the timer to shut the heater off after 1 to 9 hours or turn the heater on and off. You must walk up to the heater to see what the settings are as the display on the remote only shows the room temperature. The TVH600 Heater has been discontinued. The IControl Heater has a temperature range of 40° to 90° and is controlled by a knob on the front of the heater or by a remote linked by an infrared signal. There is no display on the remote and the heater will bring the room to temperature as sensed by the heater.

What are the essential differences between this unit & the TAVH10 1500-Watt Electric Whole Room Vortex Portable Heater with RC & Automatic Climate...?

This unit is more expensive than the TAVH10, heats fewer square feet, and the "heating technology type" is convection vs. forced air (which is "less efficient" than forced air, given the Q&A for another Tornado heater). Both units are plastic (vs. metal), have timers, 2 heat settings & fan-only option, a remote control, tip-over switch, over-heat protection, and thermistors (vs. thermostats) for "automatic climate control". Soooo - For the additional price, what essential / important feature does this unit have that the TAVH10 doesn't?
Asked by: LillyJo
Both the IControl Heater and the TAVH10 Heater are forced air heaters. Both use a fan to pull air across heated coils and circulate and warm the air in the room. Both are tested in a 1`6' X 16' room with and 8' ceiling and both use, on high, 1500 watts per hour when heating. Vornado does not make a "convection" heater, all of them are forced air. Aside from a difference in body style, they only difference is the IControl can be set from 40° to 90° and the TAVH10 can be set from 60° to 90°.

Can this heater be used with a ground fault outlet?

I read somewhere that the Vortex heaters could be damaged if used on a ground fault circuit.
Asked by: Pete
GFCI outlets not only protect against ground faults (arcing) but they also provide current limiting for over current. If the GFCI is upstream of another outlet in use, it will limit the output to the heater. The heater will still try to pull enough current to operate and this will cause the outlet breaker to trip. Even if there is no other appliance on the circuit, the GFCI outlet could sense the heater cycling as an over-current situation and trip the breaker. I would suggest you do not use the heater on a GFCI outlet but if you do, be sure no other appliance is on an outlet on the same circuit.

Can you use this under a travel trailer that has been winterized

Asked by: Dee
We suggest you don't use a heater on an RV with an electrical converter or inverter as the heater or inverter may be damaged. We also recommend you do not use a heater in an unmonitored area.

iControl 1500-Watt Whole Room Portable Vortex Heater with Automatic Climate Control is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 57.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for sunroom! We have used this heater for two years in our Four Seasons (all glass) sunroom. While the sunroom was tied into our regular heating system when it was built 12 years ago, an all glass room, including the roof, is going to get cold when the temps fall to single digits and then below zero. This heater is all we need to keep the room nice enough to still use in the winter while keeping the plants happy, too. It is, without a doubt, the best we have had.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Whether You're Hot or Cold, Just Move Some Air I've been enjoying the use of the iControl whole room heater for awhile now. When I originally received it I was expecting to really only use it in the colder months to warm my body, but I've been enjoying it in the summer months as well. I take advantage of the fan only mode in the warmer months just to circulate air in our living room and have some air blowing on me when I'm specifically hot. Because of the unit's design, I can place it right up against the opposite wall and it will still blow a nice cooling breeze to me while I'm sitting on the couch. Of course, when I'm cold, having the Vornado iControl circulate all the colder air in the room and replace it with nicely warmed air is great! Don't think you'll only use this unit during one season though. The price is a bit high, but because of the use, I think it's worth it for a great unit like the iControl. Now if I could just find the include remote that I misplaced so I didn't have to get up to turn it on and off!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best I have ever owned. I had the TVH500 for about a year. It performed well enough but quit working. After just one phone call to the service department, I was offered two choices. I could get the same model or switch to the iControl. I read the product descriptions and was impressed by the continuous action of the iControl. My only question was regarding the cool touch feature of the TVH500. I was assured that all of the heaters were cool touch. Since receiving the new iContol, I have been very impressed with it's ability to heat the space and keep it at a comfortable level. Whereas other brands allow large variations in temperature. Thank you, Vornado.
