What are the essential differences between this unit & the TAVH10 1500-Watt Electric Whole Room Vortex Portable Heater with RC & Automatic Climate...?

This unit is more expensive than the TAVH10, heats fewer square feet, and the "heating technology type" is convection vs. forced air (which is "less efficient" than forced air, given the Q&A for another Tornado heater). Both units are plastic (vs. metal), have timers, 2 heat settings & fan-only option, a remote control, tip-over switch, over-heat protection, and thermistors (vs. thermostats) for "automatic climate control". Soooo - For the additional price, what essential / important feature does this unit have that the TAVH10 doesn't?

Answer:
Both the IControl Heater and the TAVH10 Heater are forced air heaters. Both use a fan to pull air across heated coils and circulate and warm the air in the room. Both are tested in a 1`6' X 16' room with and 8' ceiling and both use, on high, 1500 watts per hour when heating. Vornado does not make a "convection" heater, all of them are forced air. I read somewhere that the Vortex heaters could be damaged if used on a ground fault circuit.

Answer:
GFCI outlets not only protect against ground faults (arcing) but they also provide current limiting for over current. If the GFCI is upstream of another outlet in use, it will limit the output to the heater. The heater will still try to pull enough current to operate and this will cause the outlet breaker to trip. Even if there is no other appliance on the circuit, the GFCI outlet could sense the heater Read More

Even if there is no other appliance on the circuit, the GFCI outlet could sense the heater cycling as an over-current situation and trip the breaker. I would suggest you do not use the heater on a GFCI outlet but if you do, be sure no other appliance is on an outlet on the same circuit. Read Less

Answer:
We suggest you don't use a heater on an RV with an electrical converter or inverter as the heater or inverter may be damaged. We also recommend you do not use a heater in an unmonitored area.

Answer:
The TVH500 Heater has an all-metal body and has a thermostat with a temperature range of 65°F to 85°F. It digtal controls on top and the charcoal version has a remote. With a thermostat, when the room reaches the temperature set on the thermostat, the fan and heat will shut off. When the temperature drops a few degrees, the heat and fan will turn back on and bring the room back to temperature.

The IControl Heater has an ABS plastic body and a thermistor with a temperature range of 40°F to 90°F. It also has digital controls and a remote. With a thermistor, when the room reaches the temperature set on the heater, the fan slows and the heat output reduces but the heater continues to run to maintain the room temperature. If the temperature does drop a couple of degrees, the fan will speed up and the heat output will increase the raise the temperature. Heaters with thermistors keep a more even temperature in the room without the fluctuation you might encounter with a thermostat model. Read Less

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 32 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Item Heats very quickly and makes the room very comfortable. October 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Compact and cute! My only product concern, and one which was indicated by some other customers, was that the remote didn't work. Vornado nicely and quickly sent replacements (twice). Neither worked. Rather than return the unit, I bought a new battery. Works fine. The inserted batteries apparently lose shelf life by touching the contacts prior to sale. September 24, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent, easy to use portable heater We live in northern IL, and our bedrooms are above an unheated garage. This heater is being used to heat our baby's room. We have another Vornado heater, and both provide gentle and quick heating of an entire room. Highly recommended February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by nice heater been going strong for years!!! we use to heat a 1000sq ft room about 10 degrees above the set house temp. very quiet and efficient, always keeps the room comfortable. heats very well on high or low, automatic climate control works. no complaints. February 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic find!!! We have depended on portable heaters for 10 years now and this was the best find ever. We bought two and placed them on the opposite sides of the house and just the two of them have made such a difference. We have left them on day and night and it's as if we have central heat now. It has a remote controller and automatically shuts off if you move it or knock it over. December 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Heater Very glad I purchased this heater. Heats up my small front room very fast. Happy with this purchase. January 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Takes the chill off my room very quickly. Really love the heat this puts out. I'm always cold but not anymore. Love the timer on it I set it for an hour when I'm going to sleep. Haven't seen my electric bill yet. December 15, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by So far it looks like a good supplement for extra heat in one cool room. The unit was smaller than it appeared, but the power it generates will be the big test this winter. October 6, 2015
