Answer:
Blades are standard 5 in blades, can be pinned or pin-less. The best blade for cutting letters is an opinion and really depends on things like what type of wood your cutting and the thickness.

Answer:
According to the author of "Scroll Saw Workbook," (3rd addition by John A. Nelson) with the right blades, scroll saws can be used to cut metal, glass, and plastic as well as wood. Many manufacturers do make special blades designed for these other materials, it just takes a little research to find them.

Answer:
The product says yes you can, however I was unable to get the saw to hold the pinless blades I use. I have been scroll sawing for over 10 years and so I have some experience with using them. I'll be taking the saw back to Home Depot.

Yes. Here's the sentence taken straight from the above description. "The WEN Scroll Saw also has a 9/16 in. stroke with the allowance of both pinned and pinless blades."

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 40 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Well made but not up to cutting tropical hardwoods I think this is a great little saw and seems to be of high quality construction. My only problem is that I really need a heavier duty saw. I was sawing 1" thick snakewood and it was not up to it. My fault really for buying it and I knew after one cut that it wasn't the right saw so I returned it. October 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great!!! The saw came all assembled and ready to use. The quality of the product is outstanding, verry quiet and smooth. The shipping was quick and right on the money. October 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great saw at a great price! Very impressed with this saw.. Just received it UPS today, To replace my 16 inch RYOBI.. took it out of the box.. very sturdy and well built scroll saw. The Light is very bright and stays where you put it.. The Air Blower could use a little better pump but pumps more air at high speed...this is my third scroll saw in 16 inch and its definitely the quietest by far.. even at high speeds if mounted on a rig its extremely quiet. Pinned blades are a breeze to change even with the small allen key it comes with but if your doing small intricate scroll and fretwork pinless is the only way to go..BUT. they are a pain in the butt.. You have to tighten them very well to keep from slipping blades.. and the allen key could have been about 3 inches longer and with a T handle to make things easier to work with. especially on the bottom blade lock. Table was not set up 90 degrees to blade out of box but was very close to being accurate when set to 0 on the table lock. Comes with 3 blades, one installed. immediately replaced with better blades. supplied blades are ok for rough cutting thicker wood or outer perimeter projects... Really liked the ability to cut 2 inch blocks.. Has a nice little storage compartment on the side for extra blades and allen keys..Table plate is nice and flush with table. The blade tensioner works well but would prefer it on top front instead of rear. With a premium blade this thing makes beautiful cuts and does the job of higher end models for a great price. I also have a 20 inch dewalt for larger projects and this saw works JUST as well but smaller and ALOT quieter. I got this saw this morning and within 30 minutes of tweaking and setting it up i had made my first small project for my wife... My wife was diagnosed with two types of cancer two years ago and after many months of chemo and radiation treatments,TODAY of all days she got the call that she was cancer free and in remmission. So i made her the most fitting project i could think of. Over all the only complaint i have with this saw is the small allen key it comes with to change blades with. Add a 4 inch T handled allen key and it would be the perfect small project saw at an unbelievable price.. Granted i have only had it one day, i highly recommend and LOVE this saw!!! Pictures included of my first project and saw. GREAT JOB on this saw WEN! I will definately be ordering the 6 inch disc and belt sander at another great price!! June 2, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not Good With Plain End Blades I purchased this to do some craft scroll saw work after my last saw finally died. This saw claims to work with both 'pin end' and 'plain end' blades. As the work I do requires a thin blade, I use an Olson MachSpeed blade. After numerous attempts and breaking several blades, I was unable to adjust the saw to securely hold the plain end blade. I would not recommend this saw if you need the thin, plain end blades. On the plus side, it is very quiet when mounted and it arrived earlier than the promised shipping date. September 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent price, solid product I am new to scroll-saw work, so I thought I would get a lower-priced saw before diving in to the saws that can cost $500 or more. After using it a few times, I am very happy with my decision. As others have mentioned, it is worthwhile buying a 3 mm t-handle allen wrench, as changing blades with the little wrench they supply is a pain, particularly the bottom screw. Overall, though, the saw is relatively quiet and works well. I would definitely recommend this saw to a fellow beginner. September 20, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Okay saw Works for light duty work. Slows down on heavier (1/2 inch stock or greater). I would recommend this saw to the hobbyist. If you need a production saw, this might not be the one for you. September 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Products Wen products are fair market price and great quality, need I say more! September 20, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Seems good for the price This scroll saw was priced at entry level and seems to perform as such. I have only used it a couple times and it seems to work well as long as you take your time and do not force it. I am sure the big name brands are much better but this saw does what I need it to do and as long as I let the saw do the work and take my time it seems to work well for what I need. August 23, 2016
