is there enough power to run an electric fireplace/heater?

Asked by: car
This should be able to run anything that can be plugged into a standard 15A household outlet without blowing the breaker. However a common 1500w electric heater would be nearly 100% load and you wouldn't be able to run anything else. If off-grid heating is what you want, you should look at indoor propane or kerosene heaters. Much quieter, and far more fuel-efficient.

Can this generator power up a shop vacc

Asked by: Ed
This WEN generator is marketed as a 1800 watt generator (most other brands are also marketed the same way) but this model has a continuous watt rating of 1500 and peak (or surge) watt rating of 1800. I own a Shop-Vac 15.75hp vacuum. The label on the back of the vacuum states 120 volts AC 60hz 8.8Amps. This also means 120x8.8=1056 watts. Since this generator provides continuous 1500 watts and my particular shop vac draws 1056 watts, I feel comfortable using my Shop-Vac using this generator. If i had a higher horsepower Shop-Vac and say it drew 12.5 amps or 1500 watts, I would be concerned about using the higher amp shop vac with this generator because the vacuum supposedly draws exactly what the generator provides. Not much buffer margin of variance in the second example. But running my 5.75hp vacuum off this WEN generator wouldn't be an issue at all! I use examples because I do not know what brand or model of shop vac you are trying to power nor do I know its amp current draw required. Just make sure you dont run out of gasoline and the generator stops when you're running the vac. I have a feeling that is very bad for the generator and puts strain on the engine and generator motor.

Initially purchased for back up power for the sump pump in case of power failure to due to storms or power outages. Have found it also runs power tools outside quite well. {drill or saws} Power rating fits well into a compact semi light weight unit, which is reasonably priced as compared to similar units on the market. Instructions, quick setup manual and maintenance recommendations are done well. Needed to purchase oil separately.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Web 1800 generator. This little generator is very light to carry around. Not very loud, and easy to start. It will run any power tool I have used so far. Seems to be very good on gas. Nice gen.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wen 1800 I wanted a generator that could run a window unit (5000 BTU), a flat screen, wireless router and a lamp. Here in New Orleans where it is very hot and muggy, sleeping at nights without a/c is not easy. This generator runs my bedroom appliances listed above all at the same time. During a short power outage, I can stay cool and keep communications. A 5 gallon gas can should keep this generator running for 24hrs at half load making it more appealing to me than it's larger models. I have not had to use it other than to make sure it functions and runs the appliances properly. It would have 5 stars if not for a dent on the control panel. Nice machine though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little beast! Bought this for my popup camper. Read reviews of it not starting or not staying on when started so I followed the starting instructions to the letter and it has started in two pulls every time and stalls out occasionally until it gets warmed up but stays lit and steady after that. The high altitude kit was a pleasant addition being I live next to and camp in the Rocky Mountains. This machine is perfect for a few small appliances and to keep a trickle charge on the battery while camping. The price makes this thing well worth it, however, I had to take one star away because it's small but it's loud. Not ideal to use for that morning coffee if you have neighbors, so keep in mind you'll have to brew those first couple cups the old fashioned way.

After following the simple first-time start up instructions (adding oil and fuel), this generator started right up. Compact and fairly quiet (for a running engine) it immediately adequately powered a propane torpedo heater and a drill. Mostly got this as an insurance policy on a freezer full of meat, should we have a power outage. Test run went great. Would give it 5 stars, but saving that for a year or two from now/ Would like to see this unit last a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have a larger generator, 6500watts, but wanted something more... I have a larger generator, 6500watts, but wanted something more portable but still adequate for power outages. At only 51lbs and 1800watts, this fits the bill. Enough power for Fridge, lights and limited other appliances use, but still light enough to load up and transport anywhere needed. No fuel level gauge or voltage output meter. These would be nice, but would also raise the cost. Started easily and ran OK.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for power tools Exceeded expectations, handled 13 amp 7.5 inched saw, 1/2" HD Drill and 14" electric chain saw individually. Handled surge without any issues, never tripped breaker. Used at 7000 feet out of box without installing high altitude kit. Easy starting. Had no issues, great value.
