Good Compound Vise and a great value.
First impression of this vise is very good, considering the price it’s a great value for a home shop or anyplace that needs a good compound vise that's fairly precise. The vise is very well built and has wonderful castings that for its size are very heavy duty. Compared to other vises in this call that are on the market this is truly remarkable.
When I first opened the box I found the vise neatly packed in foam blocks and a heavy plastic bag. The vise is coated with a heavy coat of protectant oil that should be removed. The hand cranks are not attached and are in there own compartment in the foam packing blocks with nuts and washers.
First order of business with any new quality machine vise is to remove the protectant oil. I used a bath of non-flammable solvent for washing auto parts (never use anything that’s flammable as a wash). Once this is done and everything is dried off, I removed the ways adjusting blocks, these are found under the 3 small allen head screws (two way blocks in the vise). The ways provided had a small bend in them (see photos) that needed to be flattened. Once this is done I used a medium fine whetstone to polish and remove the mill scale that came on them. Then oiled the ways and way blocks with a good machine oil and reinserted them and adjusted the allen heads to get a smooth wiggle free travel on the vices ways. You may also want to smooth down some of the rough and sharp edges with a file.
Once the cleaning and adjusting was done I permanently installed the vises hand cranks and adjusted them for almost zero play by staking them in place with a small punch mark. Overall this is a great little vise that once cleaned, deburred and adjusted can do almost anything a home shop could ask for and the price is a great bargain and should last for a lifetime.

Excellent Drill Press Vise. Very sturdy, heavy and very well made of cast iron. A lot of attention paid to details.Operates smoothly. I received mine in good condition. The gripping portion (Jaw) is smooth as glass. The hand wheels operate smoothly and move the jaw accurately to the specified tolerances. A pleasure to work with. At only 5-1/2 in. high no problem fitting under my drill press. The jaw opens to 3-1/4 in. and the hand wheels move the jaw smoothly left & right and front to back. There are 5 x 1/2 in. mounting brackets built-in. A great piece of machinery
It’s ok as less expensive tooling goes. Definitely not a precision slide vice, but for the purpose of drilling centers in wood turning blanks it does ok for me. Seems solid enough and as if the finish will not rust out quickly.
