Customer Questions & Answers

Does this unit have 220 output capability ? it says 120/240 in the specs

Asked by: houseboat25
110V, 115V, and 120V are all descriptions of standard US power. We are talking about less than 10% variation. Any voltage in this range is considered good US power. 40 years ago everyone called it 110V at the outlet but most outlets measured roughly 115V. Now they call it 120V. 220V and 240V output is exactly the same thing in practice. There are 2 separate 110V/120V circuits wired together at the plug, such that twice the voltage and therefore twice the power is available to the appliance. As a side note, on generators with a 240V outlet, there are 2 banks of 120V outlets. Each bank can supply only half the rated power of the generator. Therefore, it is best to load each bank equally with 120V appliances so as to not overload a particular circuit. RV ready generators (those with 240V also) typically have a switch to combine these 2 usually 120V/15A circuits into a single 30A circuit.

Can it run a house HVAC, refrigerator, microwave, TV, and lights all at same time?

Asked by: 1947
3000 watts is a Total of items you can, like a 1100 watt microwave plus 500 watt floodlight =1600 watts, So what you want to connect has a Label with the Voltage and Amps it requires. Ohms Law is Voltage x (times) Amps = watts

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Generator This is my first generator. Meets my expectations. It's Easy start to start. It's lightweight and easy to move from my garage to outside to use. I've only used it as a test run so far, but worked perfectly to run the refrigerator. I recommend this generator

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 3500 Wen generator I like it, but directions say not to run it without a ground connected to it which it didn't come with. The cite should let you know that. Other than that I like it. Had I known you needed a ground kit I may have bought a different generator.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use When it was delivered air filter cover was broken, I called 800 # & part was immediately shipped to me. When I installed it I then noticed spark plug cap was also broken. Again I called 800 #, WEN seems to have the best customer support I've ever seen. Replacement part was sent out.Followed instructions re oil, put some gas in it & 2nd pull it started up. Easy to pull engine, this generator is very mobile. I ran a hair dryer at max settings & the engine barely made a change in it's running speed. Not loud. I'm glad that all my 'research' paid off in my buying this model.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Affordable Emergency Power Plant Well I finally got off the fence and purchased a replacement generator primarily for home use in case of emergencies to replace the Coleman 1850 which I recently sold. After debating over the venerable Honda 2000i and similar Yamaha version I decided to go a complete different route. After looking hard at the Ryobi, when I looked at the cost, power provided, reviews etc... it was clear in my mind at least which way to go. I must admit, I had reservations about popping down almost $1000.00 (Honda/Yamaha) or $599.00 (Ryobi) for an item that I will use sparingly at home and almost never whilst camping… as 99.9% of my camping is done at water/electric sites. I decided on the Wen 3500 and purchased it at Home Depot for $306.00 out the door after the 10% military discount. The 3500 is a midsized generator which will see duty as a standalone emergency power provider for my house; enough to supply the fridge, a space heater, microwave, some CFL's and other minimum essentials. In a nut shell this unit fit my needs, desired fiscal outlay and storage space limitations. The 3500 comes with a 7HP 212cc engine and is equipped with a digital hour counter, and offers 12v, 120v and 240v outputs. After filling it up with synthetic oil & fuel, the unit started on the second pull. I find it less noisy than some other similar sized units that I've heard and believe it or not it is quieter than the old Coleman 1850 that it replaced! Alas it is not as quiet as the Honda/Yamaha, but it didn't cost $1K either. After letting it run for about half an hour, I plugged in my travel trailer and it powered the AC without skipping a beat while responding quickly to load changes. I ordered it on-line and it was ready for pickup at the store in two days. It arrived double boxed with no surprise damages. Very easy to unpack and assemble wheels & handles - took 10 minutes max. Instruction manual is well presented, and easy to follow. Nice touch is that Wen includes all tools you'd need to get the thing set up and maintained - 3 and 4 pin plugs, and spare high altitude carb jets & O rings in case you need to modify the carb for your location and a two year warranty (that I hope I never have to use) with an authorized service center less than 8 miles from the house. Although I would probably never use it in a camp ground setting, it is nice to know that if needed we have that option as well. I'll start saving my pennies now for the time when I become a "Full Timer" and can see spending the money on a Honda/Yamaha... I rated the generator overall as "Good" given that only time will tell if it is worthy of an "Excellent" rating. All in all I'm very happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Generator. Works well for us. I am an electrical contractor and I use this generator for to run equipment when at a location during a power shutdown. It works well for the heavy equipment we run and additional lighting. For the price, it's a great deal. Works as well as the namebrand units that cost twice as much.
