CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 22 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by So far so good My four Stars and not five are because of design (placement of starter pull rope) and not performance. I purchased this model for several reasons. First was overwhelming good reviews. Second was lighter weight and third price. In many of the reviews, Wen's good customer service was highlighted especially related to damaged parts due to shipping. I had a tight schedule between delivery time and when I needed to haul the genny up to my isolated property. I needed to power up several tools to do a construction project on my shed involving removal and replacement of a load bearing wall. So I had the delivery made to my local Home Depot store where I could unpack it for inspection. Staff was very helpful in giving me the space to open things up and I give the unit a thorough exam. Everything looked good and staff helped me repack and load unit in my truck. I bought a big 15 amp. Sawzall to run off this unit and so for a test run of both the genny and the new recip saw I spent two days cutting the sheet metal and framing on an old camper trailer it make it open up to drive my quad onto it. The genny ran solid for that little project and then it was off to Ontario wilderness for the micro cabin remodel. This is where 110 pounds (120? W/full tank?) and framed handles and set of wheels were a good thing. My grown daughter was my second set of hands and we hauled the genny with little difficulty over very rugged terrain. As the way in is all downhill, we found strapping it onto a snow sled more efficient than the small wheels, even though there was no snow cover. The two handles were most helpful. Down at the shed I kept the power chords at a minimum which kept the genny close by. The thing is very loud, especially as it was under the porch roof and thus in a semi encloses auditory setting. After an hour or so I'd shut it down and take a break just for the sake of my nerves and ears. Yes, I wore ear plugs. It started every time on one or two pulls over the course of three days. And of course the sawzall and a few lights were no challenge to its capacity. That was a month ago (early Nov. ) and I haven't started it since running the carb dry and topping it off with stabilized fuel upon my return from Canada. I'm very happy with my purchase and hope not to be disappointed when the inevitable winter power outages happen in the next few rough months of winter. come summer the "Wenny" will return to the woods of Ontario for completion of the cabin project. I purchased this model for several reasons. First was overwhelming good reviews. Second was lighter weight and third price. In many of the reviews, Wen's good customer service was highlighted especially related to replacing damaged parts due to shipping. I had a tight schedule between delivery time and when I needed to haul the genny up to my isolated property. I needed to power up several tools to do a construction project on my shed involving removal and replacement of a load bearing wall. I wouldn't have time to deal with defects. So I had the delivery made to my local Home Depot store where I could unpack it for inspection. Staff was very helpful in giving me the space to open things up and I give the unit a thorough exam. Many reviews mention broken parts due to rough shipping so I wanted to get a refund immediately if that were the case, and shop elsewhere. My grown daughter was my second set of hands and we hauled the genny with little difficulty from the parking spot and then over the 300 feet of very rugged terrain. As the way in is all downhill, we found strapping it onto a plastic kid's snow sled more efficient than the small wheels, even though there was no snow cover. The two handles were most helpful. Down at the shed I kept the power chords at a minimum so as not to lose start up amps but this also kept the genny very much within "ear shot". The thing is very loud, especially as it was under the porch roof and thus in a semi enclosed auditory setting. Rated 4 out of 5 by Great for the price Everything was intact- nothing broken as in many reviews I read about it before I bought so that was nice. Wheels and pieces went together well and quickly with all tools needed included- that was particularly nice. It is loud though- much louder than expected especially with choke open when starting. Worked well regardless. Definitely worth what we paid. In case curious I bought it to use with our 26 foot tow-behind camper. September 16, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Affordable Emergency Power Plant Well I finally got off the fence and purchased a replacement generator primarily for home use in case of emergencies to replace the Coleman 1850 which I recently sold. After debating over the venerable Honda 2000i and similar Yamaha version I decided to go a complete different route. After looking hard at the Ryobi, when I looked at the cost, power provided, reviews etc... it was clear in my mind at least which way to go. I must admit, I had reservations about popping down almost $1000.00 (Honda/Yamaha) or $599.00 (Ryobi) for an item that I will use sparingly at home and almost never whilst camping… as 99.9% of my camping is done at water/electric sites. I decided on the Wen 3500 and purchased it at Home Depot for $306.00 out the door after the 10% military discount. The 3500 is a midsized generator which will see duty as a standalone emergency power provider for my house; enough to supply the fridge, a space heater, microwave, some CFL's and other minimum essentials. In a nut shell this unit fit my needs, desired fiscal outlay and storage space limitations. The 3500 comes with a 7HP 212cc engine and is equipped with a digital hour counter, and offers 12v, 120v and 240v outputs. After filling it up with synthetic oil & fuel, the unit started on the second pull. I find it less noisy than some other similar sized units that I've heard and believe it or not it is quieter than the old Coleman 1850 that it replaced! Alas it is not as quiet as the Honda/Yamaha, but it didn't cost $1K either. After letting it run for about half an hour, I plugged in my travel trailer and it powered the AC without skipping a beat while responding quickly to load changes. I ordered it on-line and it was ready for pickup at the store in two days. It arrived double boxed with no surprise damages. Very easy to unpack and assemble wheels & handles - took 10 minutes max. Instruction manual is well presented, and easy to follow. Nice touch is that Wen includes all tools you'd need to get the thing set up and maintained - 3 and 4 pin plugs, and spare high altitude carb jets & O rings in case you need to modify the carb for your location and a two year warranty (that I hope I never have to use) with an authorized service center less than 8 miles from the house. Although I would probably never use it in a camp ground setting, it is nice to know that if needed we have that option as well. I'll start saving my pennies now for the time when I become a "Full Timer" and can see spending the money on a Honda/Yamaha... I rated the generator overall as "Good" given that only time will tell if it is worthy of an "Excellent" rating. All in all I'm very happy with my purchase. May 3, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Easy to use When it was delivered air filter cover was broken, I called 800 # & part was immediately shipped to me. When I installed it I then noticed spark plug cap was also broken. Again I called 800 #, WEN seems to have the best customer support I've ever seen. Replacement part was sent out.Followed instructions re oil, put some gas in it & 2nd pull it started up. Easy to pull engine, this generator is very mobile. I ran a hair dryer at max settings & the engine barely made a change in it's running speed. Not loud. I'm glad that all my 'research' paid off in my buying this model. December 17, 2013
