Only had this a week!! So can't speak to longevity. I was kind of amazed that with no priming or anything, a brand new engine started on the first pull. I thought at least one pull to get some gas sucked into it, and then start on the second pull, but it started right up first pull! Ran smooth, and didn't like vibrate all over the place. I didn't think it was loud at all. My Craftsman lawnmower is twice as loud. This is my first experience with a portable generator though.
The air filter box and cover were cracked out of the box. I called Wen about it, and they had a new complete air filter assembly to my house in 3 days, and I didn't even have the thing registered yet. Great service there!!
I only hooked up my chest freezer to it, and turned it down extra cold so it would keep running, and the Wen didn't even notice that. Then I hooked up the toaster to the other plug. She did hesitate a second when I turned that on, and then quickly leveled out running. That's all I messed around with putting a load on it. I checked the voltage output with my volt meter, and I got a fluctuation between 119.5 to only 119.7 in both regular plugs. I did not check the high voltage plug. I don't plan on using that anyway. My main concern that day was to run it for an hour, and then change the oil. I used full synthetic 10W30. I did see some "sheen" in the old oil when changing it, like byproduct from a brand new engine shedding some of it's coatings.
The wheels look sturdy, and the whole thing is very well built, and I believe will hold together easily for a long time. It's even kind of sexy looking!! Little yellow power house. She should easily keep my chest freezer, and refrigerator running in a power failure, and have enough left over for a light or two, and the TV, and I could always unplug the chest freezer for several hours if I needed some more juice for the computer or something. Just what I would need. And at the price, and all the other good reviews, you just can't beat this Wen!!

Rated 5 out of 5Â by LItender Easy to use
When it was delivered air filter cover was broken, I called 800 # & part was immediately shipped to me. When I installed it I then noticed spark plug cap was also broken. Again I called 800 #, WEN seems to have the best customer support I've ever seen. Replacement part was sent out.Followed instructions re oil, put some gas in it & 2nd pull it started up. Easy to pull engine, this generator is very mobile. I ran a hair dryer at max settings & the engine barely made a change in it's running speed. Not loud. I'm glad that all my 'research' paid off in my buying this model.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by armypilot great deal
Quick shipment, started right up, runs great. Have about 2 hours on it. The only negative if you could call it a negative is the hour meter is in whole hours and does not have tenths. Would buy again

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Shorty Affordable Emergency Power Plant
Well I finally got off the fence and purchased a replacement generator primarily for home use in case of emergencies to replace the Coleman 1850 which I recently sold. After debating over the venerable Honda 2000i and similar Yamaha version I decided to go a complete different route. After looking hard at the Ryobi, when I looked at the cost, power provided, reviews etc... it was clear in my mind at least which way to go. I must admit, I had reservations about popping down almost $1000.00 (Honda/Yamaha) or $599.00 (Ryobi) for an item that I will use sparingly at home and almost never whilst camping⦠as 99.9% of my camping is done at water/electric sites. I decided on the Wen 3500 and purchased it at Home Depot for $306.00 out the door after the 10% military discount. The 3500 is a midsized generator which will see duty as a standalone emergency power provider for my house; enough to supply the fridge, a space heater, microwave, some CFL's and other minimum essentials. In a nut shell this unit fit my needs, desired fiscal outlay and storage space limitations.
The 3500 comes with a 7HP 212cc engine and is equipped with a digital hour counter, and offers 12v, 120v and 240v outputs. After filling it up with synthetic oil & fuel, the unit started on the second pull. I find it less noisy than some other similar sized units that I've heard and believe it or not it is quieter than the old Coleman 1850 that it replaced! Alas it is not as quiet as the Honda/Yamaha, but it didn't cost $1K either. After letting it run for about half an hour, I plugged in my travel trailer and it powered the AC without skipping a beat while responding quickly to load changes.
I ordered it on-line and it was ready for pickup at the store in two days. It arrived double boxed with no surprise damages. Very easy to unpack and assemble wheels & handles - took 10 minutes max. Instruction manual is well presented, and easy to follow. Nice touch is that Wen includes all tools you'd need to get the thing set up and maintained - 3 and 4 pin plugs, and spare high altitude carb jets & O rings in case you need to modify the carb for your location and a two year warranty (that I hope I never have to use) with an authorized service center less than 8 miles from the house. Although I would probably never use it in a camp ground setting, it is nice to know that if needed we have that option as well. I'll start saving my pennies now for the time when I become a "Full Timer" and can see spending the money on a Honda/Yamaha... I rated the generator overall as "Good" given that only time will tell if it is worthy of an "Excellent" rating. All in all I'm very happy with my purchase.

Though I haven't had to use it as yet I have piece of mind knowing living here in New England we loose power and now I can keep my food safe as well as essential necessities.
