Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exception quality for the price I teach a technical program to high school students. In the past I've purchased Dremel brand rotary tools but do to school budget cuts I've had to look at some of these lesser known brands. The WEN Rotary tool is powerful, comes with a nice durable case with some nice accessories. Variable speeds all work great with or without the flex-shaft which I found to be very similar to the Dremel brand in quality and and function. Universal size collet allows the operator to use a variety of tips from a variety of manufacturers including Dremel. I was a little hesitant at first with the purchase but now that I've been using them with my students the last several months I wouldn't hesitate to purchase them again. To be clear we do not use them every day, just as needed but they are used frequently. December 15, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Run The Motor To Test Within Warranty Period This compares to the Dremel or other rotary tools available.Has the capabilities any rotary tool has, bits and burs are universal up to 1/8".,and dremel or fourney brands are recommended when on sale otherwise harbor freight items are adequate to a better value ( diamond cut-off wheels for instance). I would test the motor thoroughly on this tool before the warranty has expired. It may or may not work well under load.Add the flex shaft attachment and insure that the cable and sheath turn correctly- if not take it back and get the Dremel brand, and use cheaper no-name burs and bits from Harbour Freight, or other sources. The blow molded case is convenient.the included grinding stones are only craft quality. You can find arkansas mounted points for this tool, and other more pro quality bits and burs in acessory assortments.Look for white coloured grinding burs- they are harder than pink composite stone materials which virtually "dissolve" with any friction. Remember with any brand of Rotary tool-It Is The Rotation That Makes it Work, Not Pressure!! with that in mind this makes a great gift for teens, crafters, homeowners, gardeners, and just about anyone that does any craft, hobby, home projects, or who owns tools..Keep it clean.Keep the shaft greased according to manufacturer's specs and replace the carbon motor brushes for every 50 hours of use - ( I don't think this is a brushless tool).you may have to contact the manufacturer to find the size of the brushes.they are located under the round tab on the body of the tool.Simply turn and inspect the brushes periodically or after any load has been put on the tool. You may rotate the carbon in the spring ( end to end) to extend life, but only until you can replace it.Usually available in the hardware section and cheaper than the carded Dremel brand ( which may or may not fit as is, you'll have to inspect each tool independently as the lots occasionally contain different brushes/sizes even though the tool may appear identical outwardly. It is an imitation of Dremel's product and as such, realise it is just that!! If you can afford it, go for the corded brand name tool -the cordless ones are only good for using far distances from the shop or studio or on the car..The charge doesn't last particularly in variable speed models of any rotary tool ( even brand name rotary tools). If you are buying this as a flex shaft/pendant motor substitute wait and save for a Foredom, buffalo dental or other quality high torque low speed tool set up.It will not only last longer, but is more versatile, easier to maintain and find parts for.. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product for the price This may not be as nice or as rugged as some of the competitor products, but for the money, it is great. March 14, 2013
