I want to paint my basement walls. Do I need a thicker nap roller for this than a 3/8 inch one? If so, can I put it on this roller?

Asked by: Anonymous
Hi Jim This takes a standard size roller. You can use any size nap. I think 3/8" is a good one

Can I use smart roller with ratchet trigger to paint exterior stucco wall with texture?

If I can do it, should I use nap of 3/4 inch? Is it heavy for a female?

Yes you can. This roller will make it slightly easier than a roller and pan by not by much

I purchased this even after reading the bad reviews to paint a ceiling in a basement. For the first hour I thought this was the best invention known to man and couldn't understand how the other reviewers could rate such a magnificent product so poorly....Then it happened. The roller popped off and about a half pint of paint came spewing out all over my head, face, arms and floor. Now that big of a deal with the floor as it is concrete but if I was painting upstairs and this happened on the hardwood or tile it would be game over. Now for the actual roller. It works very nice like any nap roller. My home depot doesn't carry any of these in stock for my application a thicker nap would have worked better. The trigger works good easy to press well rolling It does take about a tube of paint to get the roller primed however sucks the paint up with no issues What causes the negative reviews of this product is a simple engineering issue. While reading the reviews and looking at the product I thought the clip came look since it is only plastic causing the roller to pop off. That is not the case at the end of the roller is a cap that holds it on and it is basically just a compression cap. So if you are rolling somewhat sideways it puts pressure on this cap and pops it off. Once is pops off it is going to keep popping off. A simple threaded end cap would have solved this issue and probably made this a five star product. Don't know how this oversite made it past the engineers. Heck weekend warrior here figured that out. Anyhow hopefully they take that suggestion and make a better product in version two. I would really like to return this however oh well it will go on a shelf until I need it again to expand my curse word library.

Seemed like a nice concept but just too many problems compared with traditional roller and pan to make it worth the fuss and cleanup. Difficult to load paint and very heavy to work overhead on ceilings but the worst problem is that the roller end comes loose on a regular occurrence, pouring paint when it does. After doing this a few times I just pitched it and went back to a regular roller.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Listen to everyone here! The concept of this roller is great. If it worked well, it'd be well worth the price. But as everyone else has said, the roller pops off repeatedly (my husband gave it to me after the 7th time, and then I managed to get by with only 2 more times). It's definitely a pressure thing, but it shouldn't happen at all. Every time, it makes a mess dripping paint everywhere. I also second the fact that it used more paint than normal and your arms end up more tired than normal. It was worth a shot... now I'm going to return it when I go buy my second gallon of paint to finish this job.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Paint runs all over So so to assemble. I followed the instructions exactly, used the petroleum jelly in all the recommended places. It was difficult to get the handle to draw up the paint. I finally got some in it, and worked on priming it outside while standing in the lawn in case. I finally got it going and went inside to paint. After a couple swipes, I was thinking this might not be too bad. All of a sudden, paint comes gushing out the side. If you tilt it at all, paint gushes out. Fortunately, I was painting before the carpet installers came, because the old carpet was being trashed anyway. I got my Handyman to fiddle with it and the end result is that we threw it in the trash and went back to manual rollers. Good concept, but it needs to go back to the drawing board and reworked before I would consider buying another one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of time and money I owned a similar unit years ago and never had any problems with it. This one cost me several extra hours to do a single room because of the cleanup after the roller assembly shot off the end three times!!!!!! Took it back and got my money back. Finished the job in a fraction of the time with a regular roller!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from great idea, saves time...far from perfect Right out of the box, couldn't get plunger to work, and couldn't disassemble! Had to get my husband to knock it about a bit to get that sucker to move. Once we got the plunger moving, the first draw of paint was pathetic. Huge head space/ air pocket. I lifted out of fill nozzle and cranked out air with trigger then was able to fill. Note, draw as slowly as possible for maximum fill. At the near finish of my second wall, the roller popped free. Luckily I caught it before it made too much of a mess. But it could have been a disaster! Next, only a few holes actually push out paint. So, if you try to saturate brush, these holes spew....definitely need a drop cloth. Other than these notes, it is a time saver, and beats using a tray to load a roller. I would recommend solely on the last statement.

I definitely recommend the old product. It came with a roller-guard which prevents spilling and the suction, for refilling, works just fine. This one that I purchased a couple of weeks ago, came in a very affordable price but it seems that the quality went down, so badly I had to return it. No roller-guard, no can top (which is not much of a big deal) but most importantly I had so much trouble trying to refill it that it seems to have slowed down the work instead of advancing it. It is a shame. I really like the roller I have but it is so old that I'm afraid I'll have to replace it pretty soon. However, I can't work with the new piece of garbage that you guys are trying to push. Go back to the older product, raise the price, make it worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Tool For Painting I am so thrilled to own this SMART Flow Roller. The first time I used it, I was just flawed at how great it works. It's super easy to use and the clean up is easy too. I couldn't believe how fast I was able to get my painting job done. The paint flows from the roller perfectly and evenly. It's very well made and I know I will own it and love it for years. It's the best painting tool ever! I was able to do my painting quickly, easily, and efficiently.
