Can this be used to paint an interior ceiling?

I want to paint my basement ceiling, one part has drywall attached and another part is unfinished which I would like to paint black and leave an "industrial" look. Can I use this to paint both with minimal overspray? How much masking would need to be done?
Asked by: butch
Yes! I just did a 700 sq ft textured ceiling in under an hour. Once you get the hang of the air and paint flow controls, using the proper tip, very little over-spray.. I would use a shield or tape off anything you do not want to hit. I was able to get within a few (2 - 3) inches of woodwork with no over-spray on it.

FLEXio 990 HVLP Direct Feed Sprayer is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 70.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Flexio 990 Worked great first round It worked great first round of our horse fencing. However when I left to go get more paint and the nozzle got dry paint stuck in the nozzle. I took it apart to clean it and I haven't been able to get it to shoot right. I have cleaned as directed and put the nozzle back as directed. I am wondering if I can buy a new fan? It leaked and paint got into the fan and the fan burned out and is not working. I just bought it yesterday. First use and first try to clean and it leaked into the fan while I pulled it apart.

After reading the innumerable negative comments about the product I felt the need to buy it solely based on principle. I WAS in the market for a direct feed sprayer( not that I needed it but I thought I would give it a try) and the price was right for me. After purchasing the unit and using it in my condo(1200 square feet) I can safely say that this sprayer is outstanding for the price. It is as simple and easy to set up as a novice could want and produces an outcome which any professional would be proud. The direct feed was beyond simple and the lightweight gun reduced fatigue. Does it require you to go through a thorough cleaning process? yes. But you are working with paint so that a given. I spent the same amount of time cleaning the gun as I did cleaning brushes and rollers. The unit produces an even and consistent spray and does precisely what it is supposed to do; paint quickly with minimum fatigue! The gun is lighter than others I checked and the power is more than enough for the heavy latex paint&primer that I used. The first time I used it there was a bit of issue with the paint spurting out the nozzle. However that is because the nozzle was not properly seated... my fault. The second time I did not tighten down the hose attached to the pump and paint leaked, again, MY FAULT! Is there going to be the occasional issue with lemons as with any mass produced product, most probable. My point here is that most all of the Issues that people have referred to are due to their own misuse of the product. You have to take time and pay attention to what you are doing, if you don't want to do that... hire someone who will. Its frustrating because a solid product that could really help the novice painter is being lambasted by folks who simply don't know how to troubleshoot or pay attention to detail. I have Zero advantage in talking up Wagner or this specific product. But I will take the pepsi challenge with anyone on any similar sprayer. Wanger, you did it right, thank you.

I read the instructions and watched the videos as recommended. Got everything out and set up. The sprayer worked great for about 15 minutes and then it began to "spit" and allowed a steady stream of paint out of the nozzle. I stopped and rolled over the problem area and cleaned the sprayer, cleaning it exactly as the directions suggested. Tried it again and it was worse. Attempted to clean a third time and the sprayer still did not spray as it should. I cleaned it again and headed back to Home Depot. I wish that I would have heeded others reviews and avoided this purchase. I wasted about a gallon of stain and created a problem that had to be corrected on the fence. If there was a bright spot on the purchase; it was Home Depot's willingness to provide a refund.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worse than harbor freight This is the only review I've ever left, so the product must be awful for me to take the time to write this. Sprayer doesn't build air pressure until after the pump turns on. This leads to globs of paint spitting out onto your wall. I'm astonished home depot sells this. I've never even purchased something this messy and useless from a harbor freight. Used Sherwin Williams pro-mar latex with floetrol. I've sprayed over 100 gallons through wagner sprayer without issue.

I never cursed so much in the 3 hours I tried to paint. Every time I let go of the trigger, and then restarted, it would splatter all over for a couple of seconds before spraying "normal" .Then if you placed it down, it would leak and run all over the floor. The over-spray was incredible! I went though 8 gals of paint to cover 1200 sq ft! The next day I rolled it with less than 4 gal and less than 3 hrs time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Low Quality Garbage I bought my first one, and it leaked from the casing. After an email to the company, they told me to return it. So I did, and the second one would have a steady leak from the nozzle. I called customer support and after a bit of time on the phone swapping out seals, I was told to return it. I got my third one, it leaked the same way from the nozzle. I took it back and got a Graco. Interesting to note - when returning the second one, the lady working the returns desk told me that this one is a piece of junk and they get them returned all the time. She said many people have to return 2 or 3 in the middle of their project just to be able to finish it. She even told me to use it to finish my project and then just return it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the Versatility The Flexio 990 is the first and only paint sprayer I have ever used but I have used it on a large project (painting the exterior of a home) and a smaller project (painting a dresser). The versatility of the sprayer and being able to change the flow and nozzle for different projects and paint types is why I believe the sprayer is such a great value. We used the sprayer to paint the exterior of a home and finished more than half of it in under 4 hours with great coverage. The sprayer isn't overly loud and the hose is a great length for using it while up and down a ladder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I don't understand the bad reviews after deciding that I wanted to change the cabinet moulding and paint, I came across this at home depot. I had been doing a lot of research trying to decide between one I could use with my compressor vs buying a separate unit. this was virtually setup free. it didn't paint in blotches or leave running lines. ultimately, your painting is only as good as your prep. take the time. do it once. it's a quiet unit and shoots regular paint with no problems at all. cleanup literally couldn't have been easier. everything snaps or splits apart so you can clean everything. only water is needed. I'm not easily impressed and this thing to me is a game changer in every painting project going forward.
