Aside from the controls this thing offers, how is it different from a Hair Dryer? There are 1800 Watt hair dryers available. Why would I buy this instead of one of them?

Answer:
The hair dryer is designed to move a lot more air past the heater so the air doesn't get as hot as the heat gun. The heat gun is designed to provide very hot air close to the end of the gun for melting or heating a small work area i.e. scraping paint, melting shrink plastic, welding plastic, loosing bolts, etc.

It is meant to do jobs hair dryers are not made for and can cause third degree burns if misused! It is a specialized tool that can make short work of many jobs, from removing an adhesive sticker - labels, to removing automotive paint & body filler and you can even solder plumbing. The wattage itself does not translate from hair dryer to heat gun, but to power consumed - in a heat gun it means extremely fast heat up time, high output motor, air flow and more. Read Less

I can't answer this question with any technical savvy. The heat is not the same as a hair dryer. Maybe on a lower setting it is. I used it to remove adhesive and a blow dryer would not have ran for an hour or more without over heating and stopping. Probably would have burned out the element inside after several attempts. I've used heat guns for other projects (drying things, window insulation film etc.) Read More

If you have a hairdryer with nozzle attachments to protect glass or not-to-be-stripped adjacent surfaces as well as an airflow narrower / constrictor nozzle to reach into narrow spaces, then you don't need this tool. It's not the heat alone that helps you to work. A rock will hammer nails but .......!

much more precise control over the heat/temperature output. Heat shrink tubing uses low vs paint scrapping on High. This gun is very stable with its heat output so to dry out a wet area in a wooden wall you would use 350 and not worry about lighting off the timbers (451 F). Hope that helps you decide.

Answer:
This heat gun ranges in heat from 250 degrees to 1350 degrees - with 12 heat settings. I don't believe hair dryers will get this warm. What this will do that a hair dryer will not is; soften paint, caulking and putty, helping with removal of adhesives, bending plastic pipes or working with shrink tubing, loosening rusted nuts, bolts fittings etc.

Answer:
The gun has a cool down mode after using and the gun will go off automatically when it has properly cooled down. This will prolong the life of the heater and prevent overheating and melting the gun. After using press the power button again and it will enter the cool down mode.

YES. Mine came with two I believe. The only thing I have issue with this heat gun is the lack of a cool feature. If you push the cool button it just cools off the gun and shuts down for safety. I wish you could heat things and then switch to a cool blower to cool them off to set them like plastics and such. Things to consider.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Light weight and very hot I bought the gun for an unusual project of welding TPO roofing. I like the adjustable heat settings and the light weight construction. It seemed to perform well for what I needed. It was hot and light weight making it easy to use. August 9, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Heat Gun This heat gun works extremely well. I have put a lot of time in on this gun and it does the job. It is built well, it is easy to operate, and it has great features. I have used it to remove 50 year old paint and varnish, to remove decals, and to apply a windshield banner. Love it. I highly recommend this purchase. March 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for welding and repairing damage to my kayak This heat gun is an effective, low cost tool for softening and melting kayak plastic with good control. It has a wide adjustable range of heat that allows experimentation without premature application of damaging high heat. This is an excellent buy for people new to the art of repairing holes, cuts, and scratches in their kayak! March 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Heat gun Like the temp control and does what I want it to do. This is a good choice if you don't need the higher end model February 23, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Push Button controls. Wagner Heat Tool (Heat Gun) has a lot of settings that allow you to adjust heat from low to high speed and from 250 degrees to 1350 degrees. A total of 12 steps of temperature allowed. The all-digital push-button control allows for quick and easy settings, and LED's show you which temperature you have set. The set comes with two accessory tools; the glass protector and the flare nozzle. I used the glass protector to remove old glazing compound from a window, allowing me to replace the glass pane. I also used this to soften bathtub caulking to allow easy scraping and removal of the caulk. Once the tile and grout were cleaned, the tool dried the area thoroughly, allowing me to recaulk the tub quickly without a lot of waiting for the area to dry out. Quite a time-saver. There are of course, dozens of other uses for this tool. Some minor concerns: 1. There is no way to wrap the cord up; 2. There is no case or bag so no way to carry accessories; 3. Tool does not come with Concentrator Nozzle which to me, was important. July 2, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great heat gun! This thing will pump out some heat! My only complaint is the on/off, I'd rather not have a button, instead a toggle for the power. It's not a performance issue, but personal preference. June 23, 2013
