How long does it take to spray a full cup (32oz)?

This question is from Power Stainer Plus 6.6 GPH Paint Sprayer with EZ Tilt Technology

I used this sprayer with 8oz of stain and it blew through it all in about 10 seconds (that's not an exaggeration) leaving 3x the stain on my project as I wanted and I wasn't able to finish (ran out of stain). From using the same stain with a brush I expected to only need ~3-4oz for the job I was doing. At that rate it could empty a full 32oz (max fill) in under a minute. Do all stainers spray this fast?

Dial it down to a finer mist (it IS adjustable), don't expect stains to cover the same as paint. Maintain the recommended distance from the wood - that helps a lot. Solid color stains can use the max setting, but ("thinner") clear or semi-transparent stains cover well at the lower settings.Time your "trigger action" closer to the edges. Keeping the stain on the wood and not over-spraying takes practice. Read More

I was also surprised at how quickly you can run through the contents of the cup, decided to lower my settings and by the time I finished my project, I had it dialed in. The second project went much better using significantly less stain once I had practice time and experience under my belt.
Wagoner is a great little sprayer but developing the correct technique is very important.

I can dump five gallons of paint in less than five minutes if I turn my graco XL all the way up. You're just not familiar with the equipment. Read the owners manual, learn how to use the equipment, before you use it. You could have finished your project with a clean rag.

Answer:
You realistically could empty the container every couple of minutes if continually working and spraying. They are very high volume sprayers and will put out a lot of material in a hurry. The key is moving quickly enough to keep up with the sprayer. Also, you can adjust the paint/stain selector on the back of the sprayer. Moving it closer to the stain setting should slow the flow of material to a degree. Read More

If you are painting, probably not. You may need a sprayer with a stronger pump for paint.

Answer:
The Stainer series is meant for thinner liquids such as stain and polyurethane. It will struggle with latex paint and may not give a nice finish. The Flexio line of HVLP sprayers would work better for a cabinetry application. Look at the Flexio 590 and 690 systems.

I think you would probably need a paint sprayer for that. Wagner also makes those and they are available at Home Depot.

We do not have any units in our Wagner brand capable of spraying shellac or other solvent-based materials. You will want to look at our Earlex branded sprayers to handle those types of material.

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 147 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Purchased this sprayer from another big box store. The sprayer worked well over multiple days. Upon reading some people had issues with it after the first spray, I tried to mitigate that by being VERY thorough in cleaning process. It does take some time to clean the sprayer, so be prepared and clean it right after you are done painting. However, I completely re-painted my shed in ~4 hours (including two cleaning sessions and hand painting trim). This would have taken me at least 12-18 hours if done by hand. It does overspray, but you can mitigate that by starting in the middle and working your way out as you get a feel for how wide/high it shoots. It will still overspray but just less if you are careful. Would definitely recommend putting out a tarp if you care about the things around it. The sprayer felt well built and I had zero issues operating it or cleaning it. October 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by What a time saver This sprayer gives professional looking results with a minimum of practice. It is very important to do a test spray for coverage on a scrap of wood first. I painted a door in the fraction of the time it would have taken with a brush with no brush strokes. It gives a smooth even finish in less coats than the brush would have taken. The clean up wasn't bad, but follow the instruction book closely for the first time. Total clean up time for my first time using the sprayer was about 15 minutes. I'm sure it will be much quicker next time. This was well worth the cost on time and effort with the one door already done. I can't wait to use it on the next project. September 12, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Too much overspray: clean-up procedures not as described A big mess of overspray in trying to stain an 8-20ft outdoor deck. Be prepared to mask everything that comes within ~5-6 ft in any direction of the gun. I spent more time cleaning the stain off of unwanted surfaces and then cleaning the sprayer than I did staining the deck. Additionally, I could not open the reverse-threaded suction tube and filter assembly as recommended in the clean-up procedure - even when held gently in a vice. Maybe this thing would be fine for staining/painting an outdoor fence or something far away from anything that you don't want touched, but in my case, I would have saved money and time just using a roller by hand. September 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Gets he gets the job done - fast! Bought this to stain approximately 1000 sq ft of fence and got the job done in just a few hours. Sprays a lot of stain with a lot of overspray so mask well what you don't want stained. Sputters when you run out of stain which is annoying and you can't really see the amount of stain left, so it's hard to avoid. Have a brush handy so you can even these out. Mine quit the last few feet, so I had to finish by hand. Put it down for one minute to refill the cup, something I had done many, many times, and when I picked it back up to finish, nothing. No sound, no spray, nothing. Took it all apart like instructed and cleaned thoroughly. Now it seems to be working so not sure if it just overheated or what. October 12, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Dissatisfied After reading both giid and bad reviews I decided to give it a try as it seems so easy and fast way to paint. The use of the machine and the instructions were very easy. Obce i was ready to paint the Wagner power stainer was working fine. After 5 min the paint sprayer stopped working. I thought it ran out of paint but the bottle was more than half. I took it apart, cleaned it and try to use it again and it just stop working. I wasted money just for a 5 min use. Do not recommend. I made also a mistake by not reading the full information regarding this Spray paint. I had to buy 3 long ext cord to reach to my backyard as I needed to paint the wood fence. I ended up finish painting with a brush. Lesson learned. Do not go by what commercial say. So, disappointed. October 17, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by it just does spray the product evenly. it ended up being more work then if I just put it on by hand October 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by It was too good to be true. Everything worked fine for the first 10 minutes. And then it was all downhill from there. It kept getting jammed because my primer was too thick. It was behr primer. Nothing out of the ordinary. It is a paint sprayer after all. Anyway. I thinned it out. And it still keeps jamming. I'm so mad. Spend more time taking it apart to unjam it than I have spent painting. Bought this to save time from using a brush and I'm barely breaking even and it's wasting a lot of paint. I'm so mad. August 4, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by It could do a lot better There is a lot of room for improvement when it comes to painting quality. Marginal overall quality, splatters. Had to brush off after it to remove the paint splatter which made some portions satin and some semi gloss. you can tell the difference between the portions sprayed and the portion brushed.
