I was extremely pleased w/ my first two bags of Wagner's Nyjer Seed. My finches loved it!
I ordered my 3rd bag & filled my feeder with it. The finches wouldn't eat it. Eventually, they didn't even fly into my yard. I had thought they migrated -or- were attacked by a predator bird….

I purchased the 10 lb bag of Wagner Nyjer seed also from Home Depot. I filled the same feeder w/ it.
The finches were back in their original numbers within two days!

Has anyone else recently had this problem? Could it have been a bad batch? The printed info on the bag was in 'black' ink NOT 'red' as shown online. Also said the country of origin was 'Ethiopia'…

I would appreciate your thoughts. Thank YOU!

I'm on 2nd bag, both arrived with the green lettering. First bag from Ethiopia: rusty brown in color and VERY dusty. Second bag from India: dark brown to black, almost no dust. Fortunately, birds ate them both, although second bag has a lot more birds coming around. That just may be that the word is out on the birdie hotline ;) I will look for an option to request the product from India next time. I do Read More

I have had this problem in the past, however it was not purchased at Home Depot. I tried to
return it and the place would not take it back so I ended up throwing it out. I cleaned out the
feeder purchased new thistle and all was good. Good luck!

This is my second purchase of the 50 pound bag. The first was a plastic sack from India, and the birds went crazy for that one. This one is a paper sack from Ethiopia and the birds seem to like this one just as much. I did notice a kind of brown dust when filling the feeder with this one that I didn't notice with the first one.

We just got our first bag and the lettering is green. So is this good finch food? The lettering is not red, and is it grown in Ethiopia, shipped in containers and then brought to home depot as that does not sound fresh to me? What are the facts?

I have had nothing but compliments with my 2 previous orders so as long as my yellow finches are happy, i am not choosy where this nyjer seed's grown. I only complained when the birds boycotted my the last batch.
Crossing fingers you'll not hear from me again - bon appetit my fine, feathered friends!

Like you, I am in my second 50# bag and the birds love it. If the seed is not properly stored, like too warm, it will spoil and the birds will not eat it. I would think that Home Depot will take it back.

I don't know what whistle is do you mean little stems if so about a half of a Gram? other wise it is ready to use. one half Gram for 50 pounds! I'd say it's perfect! I keep it in sealed 5 gallon containers with pour spouts to keep it fresh. Lessor Goldfinch like it FRESH.

50 lb. Nyjer Seed Wild Bird Food is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 249.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nyjer Bird Seed We were buying 5 lb bags of finch seed from a local nursery in So Cal. Finches are small birds but they know how to eat seed. A 5 lb bag did not last long and at $3.00-4.00/lb it was very expensive to maintain. I bought this 50 lb bag and was worried the birds would not take to the change. It was seamless. The birds loved the seed and I'm about ready to order another bag. The price is half the price per pound of a retail 5 lb bag.

I have two thistle feeders that can attract around 20 or more birds at a time. As you can imagine, it needs to be frequently refilled. The quantity (50 lbs) is a lot but economical if you get a lot of birds like I do. The smell seems fresh and the birds seem to love it. Mostly American goldfinches eat it, as well as some house/purple finches, dark eyed juncos and mourning doves who happily pick at the seeds that fall to the floor. I've even seen the curious black capped chickadee, tufted titmouse, Downy woodpecker and even red bellied woodpecker check it out! The birds come back day after day, sometimes fighting their friends over the seeds. I have had this bag for a little over a month now, and all kinds of birds seem to love it, including house sparrows (which usually do not eat thistle). As a human, I get a lot of delight and entertainment watching different kinds of birds visit my deck day after day :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from our finches love it I've tried other name brand nyjer seed sold I box stores and some were a waste of money. The finches would not eat them. I was concerned about buying 50 lbs of seed the birds would not eat. I was relieved when they totally loved it. We live in So Cal and our yard is home to 20-30 finches.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Goldfinches love it I have 3 feeders to fill and love to watch the goldfinches and other visitors enjoy this seed. They've refused to eat other seed from other suppliers in the past. I've never had a problem with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Birds love it The Nyjer is fresh because the birds love it. They tend to spurn old seed so the freshness of the seed is important for a good variety of birds to view at the feeding station.
