Answer:
Tom you will not be able to thread this on far enough to compress the gasket . The threads will bottom out very quickly when tightening elbow on to it . Grohe states it will thread on a total of 7/8 of pipe max sticking out of wall . Mine only went on a 1/2 " . You may be able to put a shorter pipe nipple on to get the depth needed . Hope that helps

Answer:
This all depends on how the plumber roughed in the tub spout!
The wall union is a ½ inch female thread so if the nipple connecting the spout to the plumbing in the wall is ½ inch this should work.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Looks and functions as expected Feels cheap but once it's installed you'd never know. August 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor quality If you are looking for a cheap way to go with a chrome drop wall supply , then this is it . The main body on this is plastic ABS not metal . Threads inside the elbow were rough and made hard to tighten. Had to chase threads and de bur them . Be careful when tightening to the wall and compressing the seal gasket. The cheap plastic bracket the screw goes into will crack when you tighten it to the wall Not very good for a Grohe product Spend an extra $15.00 dollars and buy a metal one January 27, 2015
