Customer Questions & Answers

Is this ok for Underpayment for hardwood flooring?

I understand I need a vapor barrier and felt paper is recommended.
Asked by: Spg
15# roofing paper was the original underlayment for everything. There are better products, but HD does not stock them in every store...because everyone uses this 15# roofing tar paper. FYI, 30# roofing paper is too thick to use as an underlayment, and is no better!

How much felt paper would i needto cover a 1401 sq ft roof

Example: I have looked at the manual and can't figure out what I did wrong.
Asked by: Genetta
4 should suffice. You need 2-4 inches of overlap so plan 3.44 - 3.64 rolls minimum. You may decide more if you have: a very steep roof; multiple peaks or valleys requiring odd cuts; a high wind or heavy snow load area.

Can this be used without shingles?

I am just trying to make a 8x8 box for a hot tub. I want to use this to cover my plywood from rain and snow. Basically can this get wet or will it ruin?
Asked by: singlemomtryingtorelax
No, It will wrinkle when it gets wet..Not intended to be a roofing material, It must be covered by shingles or some type of roofing material..

#15 Felt Roof Deck Protection is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works good just like it should Not much you can say about roof felt. For those who don't know you MUST use roof felt as a barrier between your roofing deck and your shingles. The felt stops the resins in the wood from penetrating and destroying your shingles. I used this felt on a roof and it was easy to install and I am pleased with it. Buy with confidence!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid stuff This seems a lot thicker than I remember from the last time I used 15# paper. It lays out nice - no wrinkles. It is definately a good layer of protection for a small price relative to what you pay for the shingles. Only reason I didn't give 5 star quality is I recall a few small thin spots

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolute Junk I bought five rolls to use as underlayment for a tin roof and before I could start placing the tin it rained. This underlayment got wet one time and as it started to dry it shrank about two inches in places. It has gap at the nails about 1-2" long. I am going to have to redo this before I can go any further. That's a $100 shot. I wouldn't recommend this for anything, it absolute junk as an underlayment if it gets wet.
