Customer Questions & Answers

this product has left a sticky finish on my island, what to do to remove

can't fidget out how to remove stickiness
Asked by: Tgarber38
I have not had your experience with the Watco Teak Oil, but in general if an oil based finish leaves a sticky mess, it is due to applying too much and not wiping off the excess soon enough. Oil finishes are meant to soak in, not be a layer on top of the wood. Usually to fix this, you can actually reapply another thin coat, let it sit for a few minutes so the solvents in the new layer can soften the old layer, then wipe off ALL the excess with a dry, lint-free cloth. The key with oil finishes is to use light coats, and apply a second or more later after giving sufficient drying/curing time between coats. Hope this helps.

Can you use this product on Ipe Wood flooring? (screened in porch)

Asked by: mj
I used it on a wall mounted ipe project and so far looks great. It really brought out the grain and color. Just make sure to follow directions, apply a small amount and wipe off the extra after a few minutes. If you apply too much of just about any finish and don't wipe off the excess, you end up with a sticky mess. Ipe is known for being very durable, lasting up to 50+ years without any treatment of any kind. I suspect a very light amount of Teak Oil once every 6 months to a year would be more than sufficient to keep it looking great for years to come.

what is the compound mentioned on your teak oil container?

Seems you instruction call for some kind of rubbing paste? to finish the application?
Asked by: mag4450
The label mentions a rubbing compound to remove excess teak oil spills on fiberglass. This is common when applying teak oil to wooden surfaces of a boat and helps in that specific application.

I used the teak oil on the wood floor boards in the bed of my classic truck. The truck is a 1951 Ford and it is a daily driver. I treat the boards one yearly and the teak oil penetrates the dense grain of the oak boards. The bed looks great and I haul items and don't worry about scratching the finish. I recommend it for application to any wood product especially those with a dense grain. It works well for both indoor and outdoor applications.

One light coat and it looks incredible. I will wait to see how it handles the weather, though it will be under an overhanging roof, so won't get direct rain/sun. Literally took 5 minutes to apply and wipe off the excess, so reapplying every few months isn't a big deal. Really brings out the grain and color of the Ipe.

I put on as much as the wood would absorb, left overnight, buffed out just a little and the finish is perfect!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Wonders on Weathered Wood Furniture! I have used this product for many years and have always been very pleased with the results and with the value for the money. I just prepped and treated my patio table and chairs this morning the they look like new as the attached "before and after" photo clearly shows. This patio set is about 20 years old and thanks to Watco Teak Oil, it continues to look great on our deck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I acquired a 3 piece teak outdoor patio set that had never been oiled. It was grayish and thirsty. This teak oil brought it back to life in one coat. I did add an extra coat a day later and it is a stunning set now. I will oil it again next Spring. Rain now just bubbles off the surface. I also added this oil to a cedar swing my husband just made. Gorgeous!!!
