Answer:
This is a rhizome tall fescue (RTF), by definition it spreads. Rhizomes continue to branch out and over time will fill bare spots but not fast. I have used this seed and it does in fact fill in nicely. I doubt a tree professional (arborist) would know this.

No it does not spread like bermuda grass. I was told by an arborist that this blend of fescue grows in place and does not spread.

I recently bought a new home out in the country and now have well water. I was told that I should not water my grass as often as I did because it will use up the well. Just wondering what type of seed should I put down as to not water as much.

The Rhizomial Tall Fescue (RTF) aspect of this grass enables it to be somewhat self repairing, able to spread and fill gaps through the development of rhizomes.
Maine has 6 climate zones, so this grass will do better in some areas than others. The duration of snow cover will have an effect on the grass, as well as the exposure to salt conditions, both at the shore and along roadways.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Service & Product Germinated quickly and filled in the patches of the previous tall fescue. This type of Tall Fescue will grow runners to fill in the patchy areas. We'll see how it fares after a few months of maturing. Put out 150 lbs. of the RTF Tall Fescue...; April 8, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't Grow At All I purchased two bags to overseer my RTF fescue lawn. I spread 50 pounds of this product, exactly as directed. Watered as directed, absolutely zero growth. This was a total waste. I definitely wish I'd saved the bags. I'd try for a refund. You may want to look elsewhere. December 9, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice looking lawn I planted this seed in a new lawn recovered from meadow area in Upstate New York. Most lawns in the North East are bluegrass. The seed germinated rapidly and has nearly filled in all of the bare spots that were caused by a heavy rain event before the lawn was established. Most of the seeded area is thick and dark green. I think it will work well for a sporting area, and I might overseed my other lawn space with this seed as well. September 2, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing! We purchased the rhizomatic tall fescue about a month ago, put it out a couple of weeks ago, and have had great sucess! Honestly, it has sprouted better than any other fescue seed we have tried. October 7, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Turned Scortched Earth Into A Beautiful Lawn Let me start with the end result first - I have grass where none had been found!!! This seed has been nothing short of exceptional. My lawn prior to use was an absolutely dreadful sight. It was diseased, in poor condition, and nothing would ever grow! Then I found this product! I live in Southern California, so I wanted something that would be drought resistant. I knew it would take a lot of water to get a lawn started, but after it took hold would only need watering once a week. So far, I am very impressed with the seeding. It has been about 8 weeks since the initial seeding and I have grass. Thick, lush, tall, super green and flourishing grass -- and it is in the winter as I write this! To seed the lawn, I researched quite a bit of tutorials online and asked a lot of people at Home Depot how to do it since I have two black thumbs. I did everything they said but roto-till the soil. I went to task with first wire-raking up all the dead grass and soil. Then I went to town on the lawn with a hard metal rake. This got up the rest of the dead grass and loosened up the top inch of soil for seeding. I went ahead and used a seed spreader and covered one half of the lawn generously. I then used top soil to about a quarter inch in most places (up to a half inch in other places) and covered the lawn. Then I did another layer of seeds (loosely raked in) and topped that with a hand tossing of manure. Then I watered....and waited. Keep in mind, the initial process took place in upper 70 degree weather. I watered every day for 14 days in the morning. After day 14, I watered every other day until day 28. Then after day 28, I watered every third day. On day 60, I started watering once a week. The results for the first batch of grass were... Day 1-6: Nothing but mud. Day 6-8: Little bits of green started to pop up. Day 9: First blades of grass started to spring up. Day 12: I had an actual green hue to the dirt. It looked like soft fuzz. I was loving it. Day 21: I had a thick lawn with some spots of bare seeding. So I rake and re-seeded. Day 42: I mowed the lawn for the first time and it was thick and full. The lawn developed a little bit of clover, but I think that was from my previous and otherwise dead mess I had before. It was not from the seed. The reason why I make note of the days and the temperatures is because in the second batch I did for the rest of the lawn, was about two weeks later when the temperatures started to be about 10+ degrees cooler. Everything held true as above, but for the fact that each date was delayed by a good 5-7 days. As for coverage, I bought the 25lb bag thinking it may not be enough to cover multiple sections of lawn -- roughly speaking 15ft x 20ft, 30ft x 20ft, 5ft x 30ft and 4ft x 20ft. . Not only did it cover it all, but I still had about 5lbs left! I will be down right honest and upfront here, I never thought anything would grown on that soil. That was actually why I chose to use seed over turf. I did not want to pay 5-6 times the price for what would be another dead lawn. Boy was I wrong. This stuff not only works, but it is the first green lawn i have had in years. As an aside, the expression of watching grass grow was not as boring as it sounds. I caught myself looking out the window multiple times a day admiring the grass as it grew. Funny, but true. December 15, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by without results... ...complied with all the instructions, but before that I bought and put top soil and grass grew... no result ,only under trees and shrubs. Тhese seeds that are in the sun are not grown until now for two months. I am in Florida zone 9 and watered every day unless it rains what to do? The product is quite expensive... August 13, 2013
