Questions & Answers

Does this grass seed spread like vermuda grass ?

Asked by: willie
I've been told by turf grass scientist that it does not spread to the extent of Bermuda but it does create a bushier plant & will fill in small bare spot to a limited extent. Check the label. The RTF variety is probably less than 5% of the total seed.

What grass seed should I use that does not require a lot of watering?

I recently bought a new home out in the country and now have well water. I was told that I should not water my grass as often as I did because it will use up the well. Just wondering what type of seed should I put down as to not water as much.

Centipede grass does not require a great deal of watering. It is best established by sod (which will require a good bit of watering to get started) and will require minimum water once established. It can be started from seed but, due to it's slow growth habit, you won't see much grass until the second growing season.

What type of rescue are in this

Asked by: Roger
The vendor (Scott's) is required to label the types of seed & the percentages of each. The blend may change from year to year so you'll probably need to go to the store to check the label. You might try contacting Scott's directly to see if they can help.

It has a dark green color, grows taller than my other tall fescue's and it grows in clumps. It seems like it is going to need a few seasons to fill in completely. When it does - I am hoping l will have a very wear and drought resistant lawn, with enough density to deter weeds from starting.

Last September I dethatched, aerated, and mowed my lawn really short. I seeded and fertilized then watered three times a day for three weeks and barely had any germination. Through the winter I just had some baby grass and mostly bare spots. Now my lawn is super thin filling in with weeds so I'm spending a lot of $ on weed killers and it's not even May yet. I think I got a bag full of weed seed.

I followed the instructions, planted first area on Friday, five days later I started seeing grass. Now it's not even two weeks and all areas are about 90% green. It's about 2 inches tall. Of course I was watering twice a day. Now I water about once a day unless it's really warm, I water twice a day. This year the weather is unusual, we are in October and still having days in the 80s and dry. Since I planted till now it rained twice very light rain. I really recommend this product. Check your area climate before buying it. I live in washington dc metropolitan area.

Germinated very quickly....first signs of seed popping occurred on day 5, with widespread germination from day 7 on. It is too early to tell how well this grass will do in our North Texas climate, as it has just been planted, but early indications are good.

It germinated fast and has a rich dark green color and so far has stood up to the heat well. The real test will be if it does survive the summer heat and springs back in the fall.
