To state the obvious, do not put it outdoors if your temperatures drop below freezing. Water is inside of the tank. When water freezes it expands. Thus, if you put the unit in sub-freezing temperatures it is possible that you could crack your tank. Read Less

Absolutely. The entire unit is rated to be outside. Neither water, wind, or sun will hurt it.

Can this WaterBoss be mounted outdoors? Since it weighs about 100 pounds empty the correct question is can it be installed outside. Yes but you need to make sure that rain or other liquids can not rain down directly on the unit because over time you will ruin the on-board computer. I placed some old 12 inch floor tiles on some leveled ground as set the WaterBoss on them. Good idea to make sure your tiles are AT LEAST level or higher than the surrounding ground. As long as you shield it from liquid hazards and follow the guidelines of not letting it freeze, you should be good to go. I opted for Sharkbite flexible metal hoses with 1 inch nuts to attach to the Water Boss and used a 3/4 inch pipe to have the hoses 'sharkbite' attach. Make sure you buy the sharkbite removal tool - just in case you ever need to take them off. Lastly, READ the manual from front to back and then start with page 1 when you install it. DO NOT go directly to the installation part first because you will miss so very important information that could make your experience horrible and possible void the warranty which WaterBoss wants the warranty registration within 30 days of purchase. Now again have to hire plumber to take the stopid unit apart to replace parts, why did i get a new one waist over 1700.00 on the thing when this one is no better! Seriously dont buy one it is JUNK!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Product; Worse Warranty Softener was professionally installed; after two years the electronics quit AND the media cylinder cracked, spilling media into our plumbing. Since it was still under warranty, I called Water Boss and was informed that I should MAIL THE WHOLE SOFTENER BACK and then they'd let me know IF they would honor the warranty. A water softener is a permanently attached and heavy appliance and full of salt. It ought to be subject to in-home repairs like similar appliances. No one in their right mind would remove all the salt, unhook it from plumbing and electricity, crate it, and ship it on the "chance" that Water Boss would honor the warranty -- and I think Water Boss knows it. Their "warranty" is really no warranty at all. When I said that, they got very nasty with me over the phone. For the cost of shipping, we bought a new water softener from a different, and hopefully honorable, company.

Comes with a DVD that has info the book does not, and vice versa. Their customer support is maybe the worst I've ever experienced.

The manufacture info instructs you to contact them, not the supplier (Home Depot) with issues. After I contacted the manufacture, they offered to send replacement parts but that is it-not a replacement or a service call. Although the control panel should be an easy fix, the top of the case that supports the media canister is cracked and the canister is shifted; not a repair an everyday handyman can make. The entire head of the media canister needs to be removed in order to remove and replace the broken support. I've purchased two WaterBoss units in the past without issue-this is my third. There will not be a fourth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fine product, just super slow delivery from HD Purchased as WaterBoss, though not impressed by their website, is at least mostly made and assembled in the USA (Ohio). Much better for lift over height if putting in a full 40 or 60 lb bag of salt crystals compared to the GE softener that failed after a 15 year service life. Far more space efficient being rectangular and shorter, takes 120 lbs of salt. Keep in mind HD doesn't keep this model in model in stock, not even in their own warehouses. It was drop shipped from the factory. I can only consider the responsiveness and tracking as poor to non-existent, and it took a full two weeks to arrive! The product could have walked here faster, even allowing for rest stops. Better yet it could have hitch-hiked, gotten to see the countryside and met new friends before being set to work in our basement.

We had our previous model for well water with iron removal for six years and never had an issue. We sold that home and built a new one in the city, we installed our new Waterboss the first week. The water was noticeably softer and the chlorine smell wasn't present any longer. So far this model has proven to be as great as our first.
