Softener was professionally installed; after two years the electronics quit AND the media cylinder cracked, spilling media into our plumbing. Since it was still under warranty, I called Water Boss and was informed that I should MAIL THE WHOLE SOFTENER BACK and then they'd let me know IF they would honor the warranty. A water softener is a permanently attached and heavy appliance and full of salt. It ought to be subject to in-home repairs like similar appliances. No one in their right mind would remove all the salt, unhook it from plumbing and electricity, crate it, and ship it on the "chance" that Water Boss would honor the warranty -- and I think Water Boss knows it. Their "warranty" is really no warranty at all. When I said that, they got very nasty with me over the phone. For the cost of shipping, we bought a new water softener from a different, and hopefully honorable, company.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by douglasb338 Wont replace the softener for a couple months so cant review
Will replace existing water softener is a couple months but haven't yet so I cannot review the product. We currently have a Water Boss 700 and since we are on municipal water ordered the Water Boss 950.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by USArmyRetiree Fine product, just super slow delivery from HD
Purchased as WaterBoss, though not impressed by their website, is at least mostly made and assembled in the USA (Ohio). Much better for lift over height if putting in a full 40 or 60 lb bag of salt crystals compared to the GE softener that failed after a 15 year service life. Far more space efficient being rectangular and shorter, takes 120 lbs of salt.
Keep in mind HD doesn't keep this model in model in stock, not even in their own warehouses. It was drop shipped from the factory. I can only consider the responsiveness and tracking as poor to non-existent, and it took a full two weeks to arrive! The product could have walked here faster, even allowing for rest stops. Better yet it could have hitch-hiked, gotten to see the countryside and met new friends before being set to work in our basement.

I installed this about a month ago and am quite happy with the results. Water with ~ 20 grains of hardness now registers 0 grains (using a Hach water hardness test kit I bought separately). Installation was relatively easy but I did have to buy different water supply lines because the ones supplied with the unit are for connecting to plain copper tubing and I have threaded pipe connections. I also purchased a water heater stand to raise the unit up because it is a bit too low for my taste if standing on the floor. A couple of observations. (1) There are two modes, Demand mode and Delay mode. However, the manual states "You should not need to change from Demand mode". I wanted to use Delay mode and called customer service, who said it was fine to set it to Delay mode. So ignore this statement in the manual. (2) After my first regeneration, I only got 200 gallons of softened water. Because the unit is rated to have a capacity of 22,000 grains, I thought (at 20 grains/gallon of hardness in the incoming water) I would get around 1,000 gallons of softened water after regeneration. Again, called customer service who told me that the unit tries to optimize the amount of soft water generated to minimize salt use. After some time, it did increase the regeneration volume to 300 gallons. (3) There is information in the video CD supplied with the unit that is not in the manual (and visa versa), so check out both before installing.

I bought this model 7years ago. I've had so much grief with it and their customer service dept personal including the general manager who was the rudest person They had me disassemble the whole valve assembly with no improvement.Today I had enough and bought a new Whirlpool. This piece of WaterBoss junk will be in the trash.

After 22 years the culligan softner that was installed when I built the house finally crashed.(good softner). Culligan wanted $1,700 for a new one.(outrageous).
This softner does the same softening as the culligan and also takes the clorine taste and smell out of the water. Installation was easy. I can't give it a 5 star rating because it seems to use more salt than the culligan, though the $$$ saved will buy a lot of salt. Good product. Buy IT.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JAH Best city water softener
This water softener installed easily within about an hour. No more under sink filters and loss of water pressure. My skin feels better. My laundry looks better and on top of that my water tastes great. Also this unit doesn't use a lot of salt.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Malchick This is the best water softener I have ever had.
This is the best water softener I have ever had. They all operate under the same principle but not to the efficiency and design of the Water Boss. I bought a water testing kit from Amazon and it confirmed I have essentially Zero Hard Water. I self-installed and I opted for the Sharkbite flexible metal hoses with 1 inch nuts to attach to the Water Boss and used a 3/4 inch pipe to have the hoses 'sharkbite' attach to. Make sure you buy the sharkbite removal tool - just in case you ever need to take them off. Lastly, READ the manual from front to back and then start with page 1 when you install it. DO NOT go directly to the installation part first because you will miss so very important information that could make your experience horrible and possible void the warranty which WaterBoss wants the warranty registration card within 30 days of purchase.
