Answer:
Yes.
There is a knob on top of the valve. There is an arrow on top of this knob. If the arrow on the knob is turned so that it is pointing at the word 'service' this means that water is flowing through the water softener. If the arrow is pointing at the word 'bypass', water simply does a U-turn inside of the valve and does NOT pass through the Waterboss.

A few people suggested flushing the water through the water lines as it will already be softened. This is true. However, the volume of water stored inside of your internal plumbing is very small and would only take a few minutes to flush. In other words, this is not a problem. Read Less

It has a bypass valve so that untreated water can bypass the unit (this occurs automatically when the unit is regenerating). However, as another person mentioned, all the lines downstream of the unit will still be full of treated water. However, as another person mentioned, all the lines downstream of the unit will still be full of treated water. It would be wasteful and time-consuming to flush the treated water down the drain before watering your plants with untreated water. Instead, you should have a tee connection before the unit to have access to untreated water for plant irrigation purposes.
Also, the treated water doesn't taste as good as untreated well water. It is very slightly salty (this is what makes it bad for plants). If you have the money and expertise, it is better to run a dedicated untreated line to your refrigerator ice maker and kitchen sink Read Less

Answer:
Yes it does, but the water in the lines will still have treated water. I personally installed a separate water line with a valve before the inlet line to the machine, so I could water plants as needed.

Answer:
The Waterboss is a self contained system with three connections required:
1) the Water inlet from the main supply.
2) the Water outlet back into the home system
3) is discharge tube which is vented to drain when the unit cycle flushes.
Ther is no separate resevour for the salt just the one unit.

Answer:
Another person answered this question correctly. There is a lid on top of the unit that slides back. This exposes an open area inside the unit between the tank and the shell containing the tank. Pour the salt in this area. The salt sits outside of the tank but inside of the water softener cabinet.

Answer:
It's a self-contained system. The salt goes in the main unit. However, it still needs to be plumbed to:
1. Untreated water in
2. Treated water out
3. Regeneration waste water to drain
4. Overflow to drain

The info sheet claims about 105 pounds. But if filled with water and salt it could be as high as 190 pounds.
Most floors will support this weight.

Assuming you are using 40lb bags of salt, it can hold 3 comfortable and 4 if you're willing to use your hands and move the salt around to maximize the storage capacity. I just dump in 3 at a time.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Was broken when it arrived could not use it The product was broken when I received it so very disappointed. Would not purchase again this way. July 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by New install June 2016 Excellent size for my needs. Does a great job! It regulates itself to the amount of soft water we need. June 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Water Softener I did a lot of research before buying this WaterBoss 900. I chose it because of it's low price, small size, and good reviews. It was very easy to install. I can't understand why people pay thousands of dollars more for a traditional name brand. Perhaps it's the fear of the unknown. My only gripe concerns the "96 hour" setting on the controller. When turned on (the default), the unit regenerates at least every four days, regardless of usage. We have very low usage in our household, and I had several back and forth emails with WaterBoss Customer Service before we determined that I could turn this off. That small issue aside, this has been a great softener for us, works well and is trouble-free (at least since the six weeks since installation). December 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install water is soft like normal... still waiting for it to regenerate. Just installed it, like it. Still waiting for it to regenerated, The water is soft as it should have been. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product This is the second one that I have bought and installed. I sold my old house so couldn't take the first one with me...It is very easy to install and the water quality is great. I would suggest buying 1 inch threaded pvc to 3/4 inch pvc to install it. It comes with everything you need but I just bought my own. Did not take long to install. The water pressure is pretty much the same and this unit uses the least amount of water during regeneration than any other brand!! June 14, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible customer service at Waterboss Purchased this product and it only lasted 5 years. If you buy this, understand that the entire unit has to be replaced every 5 years because the resin inside expires. It cannot be replaced (like a filter in a water purifier), you have to buy an entirely new unit and have it installed. I called Customer Service at Waterboss, they sold me new resin so I could replace it myself. It was an impossible task and could not be done (that cost $200). They would not allow me to return the resin without charging me a restocking fee of 15%. Since shipping one way was $50, it would have cost me over $100 to return this unusable fix. The customer service rep never told me that I may NOT be able to pull the old resin out. She implied it was fairly simple. It was not possible. If you want a short term product and are willing to pay for a new one every few years, get it. It is not documented anywhere that this product will fail in 5-6 years. Be warned. May 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A great softener This is the third Water Boss I have bought. This one I am using in my own home for a change. The first two were for my mother-in-law each time she built a house. Both have worked perfectly for her, the first one is now 20 years old. These units do not use much salt and only recycle when needed. They are very efficient and they are compact. Don't let its small size fool you. It does the job and works very well, our water is fairly hard 255 ppm and this unit is providing great softened water. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Technology. Older model needed some repairs after 15 years so I decided to get a new one. (Was outside) Good improvements. Fast recharge: 22 minutes. Set hardness in computer and forget. Best technology compared to others. Can use potassium chloride if you like. Easy install, small. Great customer service. May 24, 2016
