Customer Questions & Answers

What is the difference between air gap and non air gap?

I have a GE RO system and my owners manual does not specify air gap or non/
Asked by: James
Air gap faucets provide a drain path with a vent opening at the base of the faucet. The drain is necessary on some reverse osmosis (RO) systems because they create waste water in the process of self-cleaning. If the filter pressure were to go negative by loss of street pressure or during a filter change, the air gap prevents siphoning of drain water back into the filter. A non-air gap faucet is simply a valve to allow dispensing of water. It would only have a water supply connection, and is used on in-line filters that do not generate waste water..

Mine has begun leaking badly around the base, flooding my countertop regularly. There is no back up in my RO system.

Asked by: Sandiego
I had the same problem with water coming out my air gap vent. The air gap faucet is intended to provide a break in the drain line to prevent siphoning of contaminated drain water whenever there is a negative pressure in the RO system (as during filter change draining). The saddle clamp on my drain had rotated over time (maybe creep from alternating warm and cool drain water?) This caused the hole I had drilled to become misaligned. The problem became evident when I disconnected the drain tube and attempted to clear the hole. I used the smooth end of a drill bit (that I that I originally used to drill the hole) to align the tube connection side of the saddle clamp with the hole. I then used PVC glue (my drain is PVC) on the other half of the clamp's radius surface that contacts the drain pipe, re-installed the clamp and bolts to hold it in place. I then removed the hole alignment drill and re-attached the drain tube. This worked for a couple of months before backing up again. Puzzled, I found the drain hole was clogged, but still aligned. Troubleshooting further, I used a flashlight to look down into the drain to find that when I had drilled the hole for the drain, some burrs were formed on the inside of the drain pipe. The burrs were catching debris forming an effective plug over the hole that gravity pressure drain water could not overcome. I used a long stainless steel tube brush to remove the plastic drilling burrs. It has been over 6 months since, and the drain has stayed open. A note to air gap faucet owners - if you don't hear the sucking/gurgling noise from the sink drain after running a significant amount of RO water from the tap, the air gap drain is probably restricted and may soon back up.

I'd like to attach a filter system to the faucet is this possible for a counter mounted filtering system?

Asked by: Kathy
This faucet is marketed for that exact purpose. The "monitor" is actually a LED that flashes blue for six months before turning red to indicate that it is time for a filter change.

My faucet/monitor is flashing red - how do I stop it?

I can't find my manual. I would like to turn it off permanently - as I have a service that changes the filters on the rented r/o system.
Asked by: TenB
Remove the battery, this will prevent the red or blue light. If you re-install the battery, it will start a 6 month countdown before flashing red again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Have to replace two of them I have ordered two of these and am just about to return the second one because it's leaking, just as the first one did. Professional plumbers have installed each one, so it's not likely the install. I have a Watts reverse osmosis system so I have to order yet another faucet, but I wish I could go with another brand.

Bought this one to replace 4 year old one that started leaking within a year and got progressively worse. This one leaked right out of the box, I threw the entire system out and replaced it with a different brand. Total waste of money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not purchase This unit has been discontinued by the maker. Watts will not sell it any more and no replacement parts are available. I can only guess because it leaks, as mine does. spent a lot of money and what a waste.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it claims, and does it well. This faucet takes a 3/8" intake, so it puts out much more water (yeah!) than our first one, which was leaking and took a 1/4" rube. I put a check valve on our waste line so I did not use the air gap. This eliminates the gurgling when water is being generated. Good lengths of tubing are included. One installation note: tighten up the toggle bolt against the bottom of the hole before removing the adhesive cover on the bottom. Otherwise, the gasket on the bottom of the faucet can slide off and prevent a good seal. I bought faucet for the top-mount feature, and that makes it easy to install. It's a bit more pricey than other faucets but it works great. We also like the blue indicator light and the look of the faucet. It is quite tall, so make sure you have the clearance above the counter.
