Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Joe41 Earthquake Strap Install
Location of water heater determines how easy or hard the install is. Mine was in close quarters but I managed to get some 2x4s attached to studs behind the dry wall and then used some shorter pieces to fill in the gap. I used screws to hold all the wood together and lag bolts to secure them to the studs. The bands pose a risk of cuts, so it's advisable to wear protective gloves. It took more time to cut and assemble the blocks than it did to attach the straps. Now for my personal rant: I can't imagine whose hair brained idea it was to make these straps mandatory for earthquake insurance. I would think that if you are in an earthquake strong enough to knock over a water heater, you are going to have bigger fish to worry about.

These earthquake straps for my water heater were easy to install and look strong enough to withstand
a really strong shaking.

This is the best strapping kit available right now. I hope Home Depot continues to stock this item.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BobBuilder Easy Installation, great value
Went in easy, good directions. I did do some modifications to the install, and chose instead to accordion the excess metal strapping rather than cut it, but that worked out just fine.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Vinzent This kit is well thought out, complete and well worth the price.
I bought 3 of these E-75 WWatts water heater safety straps this morning at the local Home Depot and 6 hours after getting my tools out I had them all installed. I was concerned when I bought these as to whether the straps would fit the larger tanks. I had one tank 22’ OD, one 23” OD and the largest was 26” OD. One tank was a corner mount and the other two were effectively against a flat wall. One wall was 2”x 4” wood studs will with sheetrock and the other walls were in a pump house with 2”x 4” wood studs ½” ridge insulation and ½” plywood. The lag screws were plenty long. There was plenty of strapping and it would likely work on a 32” OD tank.
I usually stay away from these types of do-it-yourself kits because often I end up going back for something to make it work. This kit was excellent and the design is very adaptable to different tank installations. I found the instructions simple to follow and the material of good quality. If you are an average handy person around the house, I believe you will find this kit very doable. You may want to wear some light weight gloves to help prevent cuts from the galvanized strap. I would certainly recommend this kit to anyone wanting to secure water tanks or similar.
