Questions & Answers

On an air gap faucet. Why do you need two lines for waste water. I thought the faucet only took water from the tank after it was filtered.

Asked by: Nellie
My understanding is that with and "air gap" system and faucet, the faucet acts as the air gap. Thus you'll see 3 lines coming into it. The one going directly to the center brass fitting is fresh water (from either your RO system or the tank). The other two are part of the air gap; 1 is the discharge line from the filter and the other goes to you drain pipes to expel the waste water.

Is this Air Gap for the water filter, or can it REPLACE the Air Gap currently installed for my dishwaher?

I just realized I may not understand what the Air Gap feature for this water filter faucet is used for. My contractor's expert plumber said he'd never installed a drinking faucet with an air gap, and wanted me to get one so he could study how it works. My sink has three of the four holes punched out, which are being used for the main faucet (one handle, one hole), a spray nozzle, and an air gap for the dishwasher. I was thinking the Air Gap feature on this drinking faucet for the filtration system would replace the air gap for the dishwasher, which would mean I wouldn't have to punch out the fourth hole on my sink. To do so would make the placement too crowded and affect the function of the faucets and sprayer. Maybe the reason my contractor and his plumbers haven't done this before - used an air gap drinking faucet to replace the air gap for the dishwasher, so that hole does double duty - is because that ISN'T the way it works... Please HELP! Thanks~
Asked by: Mimaw
My understanding is that they are 2 separate air gaps; 1 for the RO and the other for you dishwasher. I believe you need both. They work independent of each other.

How about two 3/8" and one 1/4"

My current RO has 3/8" from filter for drinking water, 1/4" for waste that goes through airgap and out 3/8" to drain. Can I buy the 1 Handle Air Gap Faucet and then buy a 1/4" to 3/" convervter so my drinking water tube goes to converter to a 1/4" tube to the faucet?P

A 3/8” adapter, for the Standard Faucet is available here: http://www.premierh2o.com/products/john_guest_125016_3-8_qc_x_7-16_uns_-_faucet_connector_fitting

What is the difference between a non air gap and a air gap standard faucet?

I have no manual or paperwork of any kind.
Asked by: Dick
The airgap has three lines, one for the pure water going into the system and two lines for the waste water. The airgap allows the system to send waste water to the drain while preventing contamination.

I tried another brands faucet and did not like it at all, so ordered this Watts faucet. It works perfect and I like it much more than the original Watts higher-end monitored faucet that came with my system.

We had this installed by a plumber who found it awkward to work with -- two hands were needed to hold it on top as well as his two hands to tighten it under the sink. The whole reverse osmosis system needed to be reset to get air out, but after that the handle works well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from very economical replacement faucet We originally bought the GE home reverse osmosis water filtration system from home depot about two years ago. The system works very well. The faucet that comes with the system looks very good, but has a terrible mounting method. I'm not sure what the nut is called, the nut has two side flaps that are spring loaded. This kind of mounting is normally used in walls. Anyway, my son hit the faucet jarring it loose. I tried to tighten the nut, but had to remove the supply line and drain lines to do it. I broke the drain line hose bib in the process. Very thin brass barb. The OEM replacement faucet was over one hundred dollars. So I decided to try this one. The new faucet works very well, has a better mounting set up. The only problem I had were the instructions. I ended up using the first and last example together to hook up the new faucet. I did have to buy some plastic reducing couplings to match the old system with the new faucet. Overall we are pleased with the faucet. We saved over one hundred dollars with this faucet.
