Answer:
The float has about a 10 inch guide on a vertical rod attached to the pump base. Being attached, the float moves in a limited area and does not float up in various locations. The float IS NOT adjustable.

Answer:
The pump kicks on at about nine inches water height and kicks off between three and four inches. The float is on a straight stim and probably can't be adjusted. I see no need to try to adjust. Mine have work great since installed .

Should work fine with the proper connections. Just be sure that the float mechanism is clear to rise and start pump.

Answer:
Does not include a check valve. Need one to prevent water from flowing down the pipe and back into the basin. It opens in one direction to allow water to exit, but closes once the pump shuts off. This blocks the water from going in tye opposite direction through the pump when off.

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 36 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wayne Sump Pump Wayne makes a quality pump. It operates quietly and efficiently. September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Sunp Pump Exactly what I needed. Fit perfectly in the sump hole. Well built and plenty of power to lift the water out of the basement. I reccomend this product August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Sump Pump This is a great pump. Installation was quick and easy and pulled water from the basin quickly following the install. Very happy with product. Making the online purchase through Home Depot was terrible. The purchase was denied 3 times using 2 different credit cards before finally being approved. No issue with the cards, but suspect Home Depot didn't know how to process the new credit cards with security chips. I was finally able to purchase the pump using a credit card without the new security chip. April 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Sump Pump (Portable Unit) I can't give this pump a complete review because I have had the flooding condition once since I installed it. Installation was no problem. Results were what I had hoped for. Considering that the installation will only be use to control flooding in the back yard, I used ABS pipe connected by flexible joints instead of using permanent glue connections. This pump is very fast in removing the water from the sump area. I set a 12 inch by 12 inch stepping stone where I thought the water would flush to avoid having the pumped water dig a hole while it was operating. NOTE: I did glue the first 90 degree connection after screwing the drain line to the pump. December 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works like a charm! I actually bought this for our pond. We live in SW Florida and with the thunderstorms we get the pond sometimes over flows. I tried it the other day for 8hrs. and it lowered the pond at least 2-3 inches. March 15, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Reliable product This is my third pump that I am using in the basement. I had other two pumps with different brands were died after 5 years apart. It was very easy to hook up and running and very quiet. I like it a lot. March 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So Far, So Good I bought this because of the heavy cast-iron construction and because it was the same size and shape as the pump I was replacing, so I wouldn't have to make any modifications to the outflow pipe. Installed in just a few minutes. I like that it's manufactured in the United States. The real test will be how it's working in a few years. I purchased this because of the outstanding reviews and great price and construction. January 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by You can tell this thing is heavy duty - great price, fast shipping It's impossible to review a sump pump properly until you've had one last a few years, especially if it's running a lot. All I can say is that you can tell this thing is very well made, 1/2 hp is plenty of power for 90% of home applications, and for $140 shipped it's a no brainer. Cast iron is the way to go. Wayne makes good stuff. Also it has sufficiently tall (~1 inch) feet at the bottom in case anyone was wondering, so there's no need to put it on bricks/pavers. Also (and I'm not 100% sure about this) - it does seem to let some of the water pass back through when not using a check valve - which is a good thing. I chose not to use a check valve since I don't want water sitting there and freezing, and it does seem to let that small amount of water pass back through, which I don't think all pumps do.
