Product description page here says (boldly emphasized, even) that it can pump down to 1/8" ("nearly dry!"), manufacturer's page says 3/8", one reviewer here (recent) said it would pump down to only 2.5 inches.

I want to use this for pumping water out of basement when it floods, which is the correct answer?

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 145 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 1/2 HP Non-Clogging Vortex Utility pump Shipping was fast-easy to set up and works great-price was also great (compared to ones i price checked) Glad i made the purchase--dont need all the time, was the first time i needed one-due to hot water heater going to heck--but all is good now. Great Investment July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Work horse Works perfect for what I wanted. Good purchase. Submerge in pool to remove excess rain water. And good for removing water from sump if sump motor fails in heavy rain. Good all around pump to have around. July 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great pump I use this pump to pump water from a creek to 275 gallon water storage tanks for our half acre garden. I bought adapters to attach my 1 inch hard plastic water line to the pump at a local hardware store. Easy. The water is pumped up about 15 feet in elevation over a distance of 100 feet. I can fill a 275 tank in under 30 minutes, about 10 gallons per minute, much faster than the older less powerful pump I used. The pump has been in regular use since April and has performed flawlessly. June 24, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Almost worked. It almost did what I was looking for. They failed to say that it was only good to 2.5 inchs of water. Was using it to empty a above ground pool June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great pump for the money. The pump arrived on time. I plugged it in and put it to work. It finished draining my pool cover very efficiently. Because it is not specifically a pool cover pump it had to lay on its side, otherwise it was strong enough to suck the pool cover to the base of the pump. i would have liked it to have an auto shut off feature, but other than that it is great. June 14, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Used to drain a pool It worked fine but I did need to filter water through a pool net for the last inch. June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works like a champ I bought this pump do lower the level of my pool. Attach the hose, drop it in the water, plug it in. Easy as pie. Perfect for my need; great value. May 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Submersible Pump! Bought this unit for draining church baptistry and it works great! Unit is very quiet and VERY fast - entire baptistry (around 150 gallons) is drained in less than 15 minutes, almost to the very bottom of the tank. Also a big plus that the adapter, which comes with the pump, connects to standard garden hose. Some time of cord would be better to lower & raise the pump, but for now the power cord suffices. Very pleased with this unit. April 5, 2016
