There is no automatic shut off, you need to monitor and turn it off yourself.

1/2 HP Non-Clogging Vortex, Reinforced Thermoplastic Submersible Utility Pump is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 172.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Far, So Good Needed a pump to get rain water out of the Cistern and to the Garden 50 feet away and up 6 feet. The pump works great and is so quiet that I forgot it was one night. It drained the cistern down to 1/2". I think it might have shut down at that point, but it was so quiet, I couldn't tell.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Poor website info - I ended up returning it Might be a good pump for the right application but . . . Incomplete online specs and wrong instruction guide linked at website led me to return it. Description and specs say it pumps down to 1/8" of water but fails to say 2-5/8" deep water is needed before pump primes and pumping can begin. The instruction manual linked on the HD website leads to a completely different, incorrect sprinkler pump so that info is useless. The instruction manual in the box is correct but that's a little late to be finding out the performance specs. I had to take it back. If HD had the correct Instructions link, it would have saved them and me a lot of wasted time and effort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as designed Often the phrase "works as designed" is used as crutch to get around product deficiencies. In this case it is intend that this product met all of my expectation. Used it to flush a tankless water heater and did the job better than expected. Very cost effective solution when combined with the colored (blue and red) 6 foot hoses also from The Home Depot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pump for the money Bought this to drain some water out of the pool after a big rain, plugged it in and it worked fine. Was pumping through a 100' garden hose to the street and it got around 500 gallons per hour. Will be using it this week to drain again for winterizing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome machine I have a big above the ground pool, which contained some water that needed to be pumped out, when my pool pump failed to do so cause the water was low.I put Wayne utility pump into it and did a pretty good job with house garden hose. I was so happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple and Fast I needed a pump to empty my hot tub and picked this one after a lot of web research. Have only used it once, but it worked great, drained 350 gallons in an hour with about a 3 ft. rise using the garden hose reducer on the outlet. The power cord is plenty long enough, and the unit is nicely weighted to stay put. Instructions were simple, hookup and operation were easy. The only "con" I have is that the instructions say it will pump down to 1/4 of an inch, but it needs 2 5/8 inches of water to operate, so keep an eye on the water level to avoid over heating the pump. Hoping to use this 3-4 times a year, time will tell how durable this unit is.
