Nothing bad about Home Depot's 2x pressure treated products - like everything, you get what you pay for. I did some research. For 2x6 - 12' , the local lumber yard wants about $3 more per board. For 16' lengths, about $4 more (over 30% more). HOWEVER, Home Depot sells Grade #2, and is not rated for ground contact. The lumber yard is Grade #1 and rated for ground contact. My point is this : if you are building a play gym, flower boxes or something that needs only last a few years, Home Depot offers great prices. If you want something to last 20+ years, invest the extra money in a quality exterior lumber.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by DisappointedInPA Warped when stained with Behr and rotted after 6 yrs!
Built a 20'x40' two store deck so can't say every piece had issues. Replaced several 4"x4" posts after the first year because they split and twisted so badly. To my surprise after 5 or 6 years the 2"x6" boards laid horizontally across the tops of the 4x4's dry rotted I guess. They've been painted with Behr since installed and expected them to last decades not years. My parents had a pressure treated deck that wasn't stained or sealed for 10 or 15 yrs and it cleaned up like new with elbow grease. Maybe it's the Behr stain because I took two year old scrap 2x12's and made flower boxes which turned into a potato chip looking box after staining. Luckily the entire frame is coated with EPDM liner so I won't have to replace that but after 6 years I'm looking at probably 20% loss of deck and railings which is expensive with this sized deck. Will contact manufacturer and see what they say but don't expect satisfaction.

I would recommend this lumber but before leaving store check that all of the pieces are straight. One was straight, the other had a bow in it not discovered before using it.

Used these to replace my old deck, hand picked all my pieces. Layed them out at home for approx. 2 weeks to acclimate to the weather and dry out prior to installing. Only had 2 boards warp. My deck is 25ft wide so I cut my boards down to varying lengths (much like a wood floor) so as not to have continuous joints. Installed my boards using Deckmate coated all purpose 9x2-1/2" (6.35cm) Star Drive Screws. I highly recommend these as they do not strip out like other screws (I did pre drill my holes prior to screwing down). Always trim off an inch or so off of the ends of your boards as they are not always square. Make sure that the crown is always up, and above all MEASURE, MEASURE, MEASURE. Let it dry in for about 30-40 days prior to painting or sealing. . Use these few tips and you will be as happy with your deck as I am mine. Hope this was helpful.
