I installed the Vanderbilt stair railing kit in less than a day. This is the first time I installed a railing and am very happy with the final product and installation. I needed to contact customer service and spoke with Mike, who is both knowledgeable and courteous. I also opted for the taller 44" vinyl post sleeve since the bottom rail sits 7" off the ground. If you install this yourself, make sure you have a couple of bar clamps for "extra hands" and remember, measure twice and cut once! I also made a railing template out of scrap wood so I could get the exact angle and length. This is a great addition to our patio and screen room.

This worked great for my application I have just 2 steps on my back porch that go down, they are kind of steep so I wanted some kind of railing, This worked great put in a wood post at the bottom because I already had one on top. Put the post sleeves over the posts and installed the railing. The directions were really easy to follow and we had the railing up in about an hour. I was contemplating making one out of wood but this being a kit and all ready to go I couldn't pass it up! The vinyl seems to be of great quality as well! My next step is to start getting the straight rail pieces to go around my back deck and replace the wood. Definetely would recommend this item to anyone looking for a ready to install railing for your stairs!

I had been searching online and in the box stores for a railing kit that would fit my needs for the stairs on my deck,I have 2 sets of stairs ,one on each side of the deck, one railing is over 6 feet long and the other is just under 5 feet long, I bought a 6 foot length and an 8 foot length.
I will have very little waste.
I did have to do some extra work to get them to work on my application because my steps have a slight more angle and I had to lengthen the holes for the ballusters ...there is a certain amount of skill needed to get these railings to fit properly, the install directions seem to be for somebody who already has extensive carpentry skills...meaning the install directions don't walk you through every little detail, railing installation is a 2 man job, plan accordingly. If you cut the railings too short..you will be buying another kit,I didn't make that mistake but I came close.

I got this vinyl railing kit to replace my current (wood) railing going up to my back porch. Since I already had the wooden posts in the ground it made for an easier install. I'm not sure what we did before vinyl came along....it lasts longer, doesn't rot, always looks it's best and easy to keep clean. So much handier than wood, for sure. There is a note telling you that since the railing is at a slant, your measurements will be off, (please refer to product description and installation for specifics) which makes sense. I took a gamble and it happened to work. The only thing that was a bit of a bummer was the height of the two end pieces....they were a bit short. This comes unassembled but easy enough to put together. The quality seems really good and I'm glad that I took the chance with this stair railing kit.

I purchased two of these kits to put on my deck stairs. The quality of the vinyl is excellent and the aluminum inserts are very sturdy. A stair way can be tricky due to different slopes. But, the instructions and set up was very workable. The Home Depot and vendor customer service personnel were very good and helping me with one of my challenges in this project.
