I saw this was posted 2 years ago but thought I'd answer anyway for those that don't know. The amount of wood you need varies on a few things such as the size of your firebox, what temp you are smoking at, and how much meat you plan on smoking. If you just want to add a hint of any of the flavored woods this should be fine but if you're using it only to smoke with then I'd recommend 10 pounds minimum. Read More

Again it depends on what I listed above but 10 is a great starting point. Read Less

Answer:
You shouldn't even need the whole bag unless you want to get a real strong pecan flavor.

Depending on what you are smoking, it should last a long time. For example, a pork butt/pulled pork should only be smoked for about 3-4 hours. Any longer, it gets bitter. If I cook 6 racks of ribs, I only use about 6 chunks throughout the smoking process, then I wrap, so no need to waste wood. Remember, the charcoal that you use also smokes the meat. Thank you for your question. The amount of time it will last will depend on how much you use. We recommend using wood chunks in conjunction with charcoal briquettes. See our link for more smoking techniques.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great flavor More of us are using the kamado style and other slow-cooking smokers, so these large-chunk format smoking woods are essential. The more common wood chips burn up too fast; which is fine for quick grilling, but not slow smoking. I would like to see HD carry more of the large chunk flavors, as all the other woods species were the small chip style. As for value, it's a little over priced, and that's because it's got the Weber brand name. Maybe there are other brands out there that are just as good but don't have the cachet of Weber.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is a great addition to your BBQ repertoire, but you gotta pay Up here in the Northwest, people just aren't that familiar with pecan wood, and what it can do for your grilling experience. Don't trust me, just spend $5.99 for 5 pounds of this magic. You'll understand after you barbecue pork chops or chicken using this as an additive to your regular charcoal. Then it will occur to you: Hey! This stuff costs more than a dollar a pound. I guess that's the price we pay up here for really great barbecue wood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I absolutely love smoking with pecan wood. I generally use my smoker at least once a week and for the most part I use pecan. Even when I use a milder type of wood, I throw a little pecan in to give my food more depth of flavor. I am so glad that Home Depot had this product at such a good price. I could not find a better value and believe me I have looked.
