They say it is cast iron covered grill with porcelein covering on the grates.

but not to use metal utensils... I asked WHAT SHOULD I USE and all you did was show my question with NO answer! I need an answer, please!
Asked by: Anonymous
I use metal utensils all the time on mine but that did likely cause the enamel to wear off quicker. I'd use Teflon safe tools but the handles are all too short. My grates lasted 5 years but I had them wrong (flat side should be UP) so now I will clean the grates and put them back in, right side up for another 5 years!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smart Purchase I purchased these for my Weber Genesis grill because I was having a problem of uneven cooking temperatures on surface of stainless grates. I replaced with Weber cast iron and nite and day difference . every item ,no matter where I locate it on grill, cooks at the same doneness ! Can't believe the difference ! Buy it ,you'll be impressed !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well made and sturdy These grates are well made, definitely thick and sturdy. Tested them out once so far and all good. This is really a product you test over time to decide durability but I can say these are thick grates and a good size.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not the same quality Very surprised that the Weber replacement grates aren't the same as the original grates. These are cheaper imitation with lighter weight cast iron and less runners. The wider space between each runner is much easier to drop food through and as one other review mentioned less grilling area than the original design. Shame on Weber for pushing an inferior aftermarket product on its customers. At $70 they can offer the original equipment and still make plenty of profit. They offer stainless steel, but the price is obnoxious. Next time I'll look for a competitor product. Note, I'm a big fan of Weber grills, there're the only grills I purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exact replacement parts and learned something As with all things Weber, the replacement grills were exactly the right parts for our grill and very well manufactured. Open the box, put them on, fire up the grill with no hassles. The box is quite a bit longer than the actual grill length so a HD associate opened the box in the store so I could measure them and see that yes, they are the right ones. I did learn something very impoprtant: when looking for the parts on the web site, I looked through the FAQ section. One question was was: which side of the grill goes up? I thought it was a dumb question until I read the answer: the flat side goes up! Dummy me, I had put the flat side down when we first got the grill. The flat side up gives a larger hot surface contact with whatever you are grilling, and it is LOTS easier to clean the grill off after you are done cooking.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Thanks! Read the reviews prior to my planned trip to HD to buy new grates. The coating is all worn off of my old set. Now after discovering that the wider, flat side up is the correct way to install these grates, I will use oven cleaner and HP sprayer to clean the gunk off and put the still new shiny side up as it should have been and get another 5 years out of 'em! AND it sounds like it will cook better! Thanks to you other contributor(s) who set me straight. (Already bought new flavorizers and burners) Now a tip in return from me. A-Maze-N smoker = 5 stars. Use with one burner on low (temp 200 +/- a few degrees) indirect heat and you will be very pleased. Did a pork tenderloin so far with smokehouse maple rub and got tons of compliments. Sear the meat initially. (Full disclosure - No I don't work for them or have any connection with Amazen Products)
