Does it really take 15 minutes to heat up?

I understand that it has to heat but 15 minutes is a bit long. If you were using an undersized extension or a line that is not rated for 20 amps, I could see this happening.

Answer:
Yes, you need to allow the grill proper warm up time, or you are going to be disappointed with longer cook times and dried out food.

The biggest challenge some people face is unlearning what they learned from gas grills. The heat is not instantaneous. FWIW, I have a nice big propane grill (at a different residence) in addition to this electric grill. I preheat the propane for 20+ minutes every time so that I can properly scrape/brush and pre-oil the cast iron cooking grates. The flavor you get off the grill is going to be related to the time you invest in prep prior to actually cooking. Read Less

Answer:
15 minutes is the standard pre-heat time for all Weber grills whether they are charcoal, gas or electric. Through our rigorous design and testing process, we have determined that 15 minutes is the average amount of time it will take the unit to heat up adequately to properly cook any food that is desired.

Answer:
With steaks and hamburg, after preheating, I cook on high with the lid open. If you like these items cooked medium, 2 to 3 minutes per side I found was sufficient.
Chicken after preheating. I cooked two minutes on each side on high with the lid open. Then put temperature to medium and cooked 4 to 5 minutes with the lid down.
Food tastes comparable to gas grill.

I have owned only a propane gas grill in the past and was able to keep it outdoors all winter with the cover made for it protecting it from moisture but not cold. Will I be able to keep the Weber 2400 outdoors with a cover as well all winter?

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic BBQ This grill replaced an older one that we had had for years - it is larger and has wider grill grates. Went together easily and cooks great! May 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great grill!! I am very pleased with this product. Once this grill reaches cooking temp (20-30 minutes), it cooks as well as it's propane cousin. Cleanup is fairly easy as well. Worth the price, in my opinion. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worth Every Pennie! This grill is awesome....It's worth every Pennie....Cooks Amazing for being electric.... the steaks were juicy and so tasty...Just make sure you let it heat up for the 20mins as recommended & you won't be disappointed....We have cooked everything on this....Burgers ~ Steaks ~ Hot Dogs ~ Veggies all with Amazing flavor & its doesn't take very long at all to cook....We also added some smoking chips in tin foil for some extra flavor....To be honest I think I like this better then all other grills That I have owned....Don't hesitate to buy soooooo worth it! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Outstanding Grill The Weber 2400 not only grills food like a gas grill, clean-up and operation is a breeze. For 30 years cooked on gas or propane grills. After research and limited space, deemed to try the Q2400. It outperforms the advertising. I would recommend this grill to anyone. Food tastes as if it were cooked on a gas/propane grill. Outstanding workmanship by Weber. April 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome grill Almost no assembly required. Cooks steak perfectly and wit ease, no flare up September 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Can't beat a Weber product Love the idea of an electric grill with no propane or charcoal type that have an open flame to worry about. I had an unpleasant experience with the propane grill. I'm 90 years ole and wasn't careful enough. Otherwise, the propane worked very well. Good heat and everything. This electric Weber has good heat too. I've cooked chicken on it so far and turned our beautifully. August 12, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love this grill! My condo requires that we use an electric type grill and finally we found one that does a great job. It has plenty of grilling space for at least a family of four. It heats quickly and gets really hot so meals are done in no time. The best feature to me is that it cleans up really easily to the point it looks practically brand new which is great since storage is often inside the condo.. August 23, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Q 2400 Is Awesome First the cons: Upon assembly, noticed that they had failed to install a spacer at the factory that resulted in some fit issues with the legs. I had to "MacGyver" it with some washers to make it work so that I could get grilling that evening--for the top $ paid, that is a disappointment. Pros--everything else about this grill! First of all, it is NOT a gas grill, so there is no good way to compare it to that. However, for those forced to deal with the "flame free" rules of condos and apartment complexes, this is a great (though pricey) solution! Lots of others have slammed other brands for their inability to be much more than outdoor griddles, at best. This grill is a true grill, and (should you choose to invest in it), here are couple tips that might help you improve your satisfaction: 1. Always give it the full 20 minutes to warm up (and maybe a couple more for good measure). If you throw food on it before it is fully warmed up, then you are asking for disappointment. 2. In spite of what others are saying, resist the temptation to clean out the lower stainless liner. When you do that, (IMHO) you eliminate the grill's ability to impart some of that grill flavor that only comes from a seasoned, well used grill. Definitely keep the cooking surface cleaned and well oiled, but let the remnants of your previous grilling help make today's meal even more tasty! 3. Consider using some wood chips to add some smoky flavor. This is certainly not a must, but helped us really enjoy the first several outings with our grill as the other "flavor surfaces" mentioned above were still being properly coated. Some people go out and buy the little boxes for the wood chips, but I do just fine with a little boat created from tin foil. So in short, while there is no replacement for cooking over propane (or charcoal, for the purists) this is a great grill so long as you are willing to follow the recommendations re preheat times and cooking settings/times. I struggled with the price tag on this unit. I still do, I suppose. However, I am happy to report that if you can swallow the initial cost, are willing to follow the instructions, and do a little bit of re-learning to accommodate the heating element versus a flame, and are careful to allow your grill to "season" over the course of several grilling events, you will not regret your purchase.
