I recently got a Weber coal grill even though I loved my bigger gas grill. I went ahead and got this chimney and am so glad that I did. I will never be without one again. However I was impatient & wanted to use this right away but didn't read the instructions thoroughly because it said to place on the coal rack. Dummy me, I set it on the cooking rack (see my photo). But I kept a close eye on it and my hose ready, but it never tipped over and did the job it was intended for. So, lesson learned. Now I remove the cooking rack and set it on the coal rack while lighting the coals. I feel safer knowing it is sitting lower in the grill and not apt to tip over. It does discolor after use, but it doesn't diminish from its performance. I also chose to use hardwood coal (Royal Oak brand) and got a package of the Weber fire starter cubes because I didn't want my food to taste like chemicals from the traditional formed coal briquettes and lighter fluid. I set the cube under the chimney and lit it with one of those large handle lighters and it lights on first try. The coals burn quickly and evenly. I do however recommend wearing protective gloves when handling the chimney. Don't hesitate, get one. You'll be cooking in no time and your food will taste amazing !

What's that? You have a gas start on your charcoal grill? Who cares. Buy the Weber Chimney anyway. It's so simple to use, and starts all your charcoal up nice and evenly, and much quicker than the gas start could ever hope for. Goes great with the starter cubes, or just rolled up newspaper. I do recommend having a pair of BBQ mitts to go with it as well, just for safety's sake.

I HATE charcoal grills. I was raised on propane and the ease of pressing a button to get food started. This chimney started got rid of 90% of my issues with charcoal: getting the coals started and heated perfectly.
It still takes 15 minutes to heat properly (and some kindling like newspaper or the white cubes you can buy separately), but if you wound up with a cheap-o Weber grill and don't want to spend 20 minutes fighting wind conditions and lighter fluid, this works perfectly. I may even like using my charcoal grill (but I'm certainly not telling my wife)

I have always started my charcoal grill by using starter fluid and newspaper. For one reason or another the coals took an extremely long time to light and my food smelled and sometimes tasted like lighter fluid. I also wasted a lot of coal. Since this purchase, I have not wasted one coal and only used the lighter fluid on the paper in the chimney. This product saves a lot of time. The chimney is a little heavy for me as I have arthritis in my wrist, but I can still manage.
I recommend this product to everyone that wants to save money and time.

I purchased a smoker and was unsure about buying a chimney - worth it. My husband found it valuable/helpful and easy to use.

If you have a charcoal grill you MUST have one of these. It will heat the coals fast and you never have to eat fumes again.
