The assembly instructions are clear and easy to follow. I didn't time myself, but it probably took me 1/2 hour once you go over the instructions and get a wrench and screwdriver.

Answer:
Really not that difficult. Took me only 1-2 hours, and only had help with one tiny part (feeding lines and wires down through a part while I held up the main grill). I think most people could do 90% of the work all alone and still be done in less than 2 hours.

The grill worked for 3 times and then shut off the gas completely. Weber customer service was responsive but not very knowledgeable about it, they said a regular flare fitting is not appropriate and damaged the "quick disconnect" connection that comes with the grill. No explanation why this might be so, there is nothing in the manual about if and why it would not be appropriate to make a standard connection. The plumber refuses to change what he did based on this obscure advise from Weber, other plumbers also say it makes no sense. Bottom line, I have a grill and cannot connect it to the gas line we had from the previous grill. Read Less

Why? It would probably cost you a service call. Your local gas company or a gas appliance installer can come out for a fee if you are not comfortable doing it yourself. The Home Depot employees can answer any questions you have right there in the store. If you already have a gas line all you need to do is determine the pipe size coming out of the house and if it's smaller or larger you can get fittings that will reduce or enlarge the pipe so it matches the fitting on the gas line hose. Don't forget you have to use Natural gas approved dope or tape on the threads of the pipes. Don't use the white tape. It's not made for natural gas lines.
Don't forget you need a shutoff outside.

My interest is once I have the center insert (vegetables/potatoes) and want to also grill a steak or chicken breast at the same time (food for one person maybe two). Is it better to get the 3 burner or will the 2 burner work in terms of surface grilling space?

I would consider the 2 burner if you are only cooking for two people, you have plenty of room for all your meat and vegetables with space left. This grill can accommodate several items at one time!

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 99 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great Grill - Frustrating Screen The Grill itself is Great! I especially love the BBQ System. Unfortunately you have to sacrifice door on the grill just to get the BBQ system with Home Depot. Everywhere else they sell this rather expensive grill, it comes with a solid hinged metal door. This BBQ version comes with a flimsy cheap looking plastic screen. The screen itself is difficult to attach to all of the brackets because you cant really see them behind the screen as you try and attach it. It becomes rather annoying every time that you need to turn the gas to the grill on and off. You also can see the propane tank through the screen which takes away from the look of this otherwise beautiful grill. The Weber customer service also refused to sell me a door that would fit this grill. This would be the prefect grill otherwise. May 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Grill I've Ever Purchased! The Weber Spirit E-310 3-Burner Natural Gas Grill is easily the best grill I have ever purchased! The grill temperature quickly rose to 400 degrees and cooked my food evenly. The porcelain enameled cast iron cooking grates and 3 stainless steel burners are built to last and I’m looking forward to not having to replace them in a year or two. The grill also moves around easily due to the 4 heavy duty swivel casters wheels that lock in place. The grease pan and electronic ignition battery compartment are easy to get to in order to replace and clean up the mess. Home Depot offered free shipping and assembly, so I just had to pick up the grill when it was ready. They even loaded it into my truck and ensured it was secured for the trip home. If you are in the market for a simple but reliable grill that runs on natural gas, this is the grill for you! May 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good to Go I just received this grill so I can't speak about long term but with a name like Weber, I'm confident it will last. What I can review however is how amazing the customer service is at Home Depot. One thing that keeps the cost of this grill lower is that you don't have to pay another $70 - $100 for a gas conversion kit. Great value and seamless transaction. May 15, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice grill. Love the lift out middle grate. You can cook veggies in the skillet while you cook meat around on the grates. Great even heat and easy clean up when needed. The only con is I would rather have a hinged door on the bottom. Nice storage area but you need to un hook and lift off the panel to access it. May 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by HD Correct Problem Great product but there were problem. Dropped by store and paid for the grill that was to be ready the next week. When we arrived it took a half hour to find out the item was not ready or could not be located. I requested that it be delivered and the manager agreed. Several days later it was delivered by a manager who sincerely apologized for the inconvenience. Truly great support. But the temperature gauge was broken. Emailed Weber and they acknowledged the problem quickly after verifying the grill was registered. In another week the replacement part arrived. Weber's was very good also. Since the unit was damaged (actually 2 places but I decided not to pursue the other problem) I nicked quality. Now that it is working I am enjoying my grill thinking that it must be the best grill I ever owned which is something considering my "elderly" status. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love this grill! We love this grill. It cooks evenly and it is a breeze to clean up. Don't have to fool with grill stones either. Love that it has different cooking accessories you can purchase for this grill i.e., grill pan (comes with the grill) wok, pizza stone, etc, that fit in the grills center for cooking. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by love this grill! This is a great working no frills grill. Even heating on entire surface and works well for indirect cooking. Assembly was a snap and it shipped earlier than promised May 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very pleased I was very impressed with the engineering of the grill when I put it together. All holes lined up and nuts were welded onto the receiving pieces, so that took them out of the assembly process. The instruction book was entirely pictures, which was ingenious. The grill is of very high quality and I expect it to last a long time. This is a good grill choice. February 23, 2016
