does the handle stay cool during cooking?

Asked by: bigmeandaddy
If the top is closed, the handles stay plenty cool, but if the top is open, the handles are directly over the heat and they will get hot to the touch. Not so hot you can't close it, but hot enough to be uncomfortable if you held your hand there. Use a mitt if your cooking with an open top.

Does this model have the smoker box and sear station like the E-470 has?

Before I purchase I wanted to confirm that the only difference between the S-470 and E-470 is either Stainless Steel and Ennamel (respectively). All other features and specifications are the same? The description on The Home Depot website doesn't clearly confirm this
Asked by: Anonymous
As I recall, the number refer to the features, number of stations, etc. So, yes, it should have the smoker box and sear station.

Summit S-470 4-Burner Natural Gas Grill in Stainless Steel is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 29.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect grill I have had many grills before, in all price ranges, and this Weber grill is by far the best in its range. Solidly built, well designed and engineered, it has met and surpassed my expectations within days. Preheating is very fast, temperature controls work well, rotisserie works great and produces just the right amount of heat. Design of the grease catch pan is well done and easy to clean. Double-walled hood keeps the heat inside without heating the surrounding area and the cook. All-in-all, a solidly built and beautiful gas grill.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I should have purchased this Weber grill the last time. I purchased a different grill two years ago because of the glowing review given by a consumer's mag. of Large Grills. previously I had worn out a Weber Genisis. (had it for about 20 years..) But soon after I started to bbq I found I actually hated the dang thing: extremely hard to clean the firebox area (the Weber's have a simple pull-out drawer that is easy wipe clean and refit.) the corners were very pointed and sharp (cut my gill cover) no hooks to hang tools (I fashioned my own) I can't believe I didn't see all the little things before I bought it. NOW this Weber Summit is perfect: molded aluminum corners (curved), built-in tool hooks, very easy to clean, it heats up fast and evenly. So far I've cooked chicken, kabobs and fish. I've had the grill for a week and a half and all the food has cooked just right! Home Depot was friendly and easy to work with, too. I am extremely happy, now. Greg in Santa Rosa, Ca.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ultimate Weber This is the third Weber Grill we've had in 30 years - always the best choice. You can spend more but the Weber delivers the highest quality for the money and they stand behind their product. So many great features I'm always looking forward to the next time we can grill.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Grill I Ever Owned This is my first Weber and it was definetly worth the wait. I've been grilling for over 30 years and started with charcoal but made thw switch to gas about 17 years ago. Basically I just got tired of all the clean up afterwards. Over the years I've purchased several different gas grills it he $300-500 range. They would only last 3-5 years and then needed to be replaced. I was fed up and decided that I wanted something better and longer lasting. I di a lot of research and all the data pointed to Weber grills. I made up my mind and went to Home Depot to see them first hand. Originally I was looking at something a little less pricey but then my pointed to the Summit 470. She said "That's the grill we should get." I was a little reluctant at first but when I saw the built-in smoker box, I was hooked. I have never has a gas grill with so much temperature control. I can smoke ribs and keep the temperature right between 225-250 for the entire grilling process. Everything I've grilled has been perfect and with the Weber guarantee, this grill can't be beat. If your fed up with buying a new gas grill every few years then this is the one for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Weber S-470 NG Gas Grill This grill is pricey but well worth it. It is simple to operate and very easy to set up. You will need help moving it since it is very heavy, The grill comes up to temp quickly and has plenty of heat for cooking in all heat ranges.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works very well Virtually no assembly required! Just a few bits and pieces to install, grates etc. and I was ready to cook! One thing to be aware of is lifting it off the shipping pallet. It's reasonably heavy, my 5'3" wife and I managed without injury, but a third pair of hands to remove the pallet would have been useful. Another is that the new grills don't have a large pair of wheels. So if you have to move it around the back of the house on grass, it had better be firm and dry! Once situated on the deck, It's just like any Weber, rock solid. The ignition system took a little getting used to, push the knob in, rotate to just before the ignition symbol, pause for a 2 count, rotate the last bit and it lights. A bit of practice, but once you get it it's easy. The manual is very limited, no recipes or helpful stuff there! (my previous grills had some really great things) Now it is all on line, with videos, and more recipes than I will likely ever cook! The rotisserie is phenomenal! I LOVE it! So easy, and the results are fantastic. Realistically, it is the main reason for getting this grill. If you like moist, tender, poultry, pork loin, or ribs, this is the grill. I got the natural gas model as I had the hook up installed previously. It's the best! No tanks. In short I would highly recommend this grill. If it lasts like my previous one, 15 years being used 3-4 times per week, I think it's well worth it. I would say, buy a cover! This is important, the grill will get water inside in the rain. This will fill the drip pan in the cupboard underneath, and then the grease etc. will get all over everything. Buy a cover and use it properly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Weber - A name you can trust for quality and dependability.. This grill is a very high end item that not only is a grill with searing station, smoker, rotisserie but can be use as a kitchen outside where the heat belongs in the warmer months. You have the name Weber standing behind it for directions, maintenance, cooking suggestions and warranty including having repair parts available for the lifetime of your grill. While I have only had mine for a short time I have entertained over Father's Day (Tri Tip on the Weber and Cornish Game Hens (6) rotisseried on my original charcoal grill) with excellent results.I have enjoyed cooking ribs, shrimp, baked potatoes and corn on the cob. The cooking possibilities are endless. I'm very please with my selection given the research I performed and find the expense, while a concern, is worth it. What's is your backyard?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from When You Want The Best! This is a well made top of the line gas grill! I am very pleased with it and will no longer have to guess how much gas I have since I ran a gas line out onto the patio of my new house for the grill. I have slow cooked a Boston Butt on it, used the rotisserie to make two awesome tasting chickens so far and love it. It heats so fast that with all the burners on it will get to about 550 degrees in minutes. The smoker burner is a great option, I bought the griddle for it but haven't used it yet and plan on using the grill to warm things up since it heats up much faster than the Five Star gas oven in my house. I kind of wish I would have went ahead and bought the 670 but I'm sure the 470 will be more than big enough for me. I bought the cover for it and I'm sure I won't have to buy another grill ever again as this grill is built to last a lifetime.
