The Weller SP40NKUS Standard Duty LED Soldering Iron Kit has co-molded soft grip ribbed handle design for maximum comfort and reduced slippage. The wire connection is less than 12-AWG. The high-performance ceramic heater technology will heat up to 900 Degree F.

I need to solder some 18 gauge wire together will this be sufficient enough to do that or should i step up to the 100.

Mike, I had great success with soldering three 16ga stranded wires in a single point. I found the solder flows evenly and the heat output is great.
